𝗟𝘂𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 At the recent 45ᵗʰ The Motorship Conference, #MotorshipPFF, Edward Ng, PhD, General Manager – Technical, shared insights on "Lubricants Enabling Alternative Fuels for Maritime Decarbonisation". Key points: ➡️ Ammonia emerging as promising candidate among other zero- or low-carbon alternative fuels being considered to achieve IMO decarbonisation goals ➖ Due to global availability, potential green production methods, energy density, and ease of handling ➡️ Gulf Marine deepened research to further understand how the use of ammonia would impact on lubricant performance. ➡️ Ammonia and nitrogen dioxide contaminants were introduced to the lube oils to assess oil degradation. ➡️ Altered oils were evaluated for oxidation, corrosion, deposit formation, and wear properties. ➡️ Test evaluations show minimal impairment of Gulf Marine’s lubricants’ performance.
