About us

Established in 2001, the Health Promotion Board (HPB)'s vision is to build a nation of healthy people. While residents in Singapore today enjoy good health with high life expectancy and low mortality rates, we want to further improve our health status and continue to enjoy good health as we age. To achieve this, we serve as the main driver for national health promotion and disease prevention programmes. Our goal is to increase the quality and years of healthy life and prevent illness, disability and premature death. We implement programmes that reach out to the population, specifically children, adults and the elderly. These programmes include health and dental services for school children, breast and cervical screening, AIDS education, childhood injury prevention, mental health education, myopia prevention, physical activity, smoking control, nutrition, osteoporosis education and workplace health promotion. New programmes will also be initiated over time to address health concerns among the community.

Shaping the Future of Prevention and Management of Chronic Conditions with Technology and Innovation   The Health Promotion Board is partnering technology and healthcare companies on two pilot programmes that can provide real-time feedback and personalised insights on how to improve the health of Singaporeans.   The two programmes are designed to provide personalised feedback, delivered through technology and coaching platforms that HPB developed in collaboration with our partners.   Up to 6,000 Singaporeans will be involved in the programmes, which will empower individuals with tailored support, aimed to nudge positive behaviour change and help them prevent or manage chronic conditions.   Mr. Choon Hong Tay, Chief Executive Officer, Health Promotion Board, said: “Health Promotion Board is constantly pursuing innovations that enable Singaporeans to better manage their own health. Our latest collaborations with Abbott and Health2Sync 智抗糖 on the DigiCoach programme, and with Google, ConnectedLife Health and Fullerton Health on the HealthTrack SG programme, will allow us to trial new solutions that deliver more timely and actionable recommendations to Singaporeans to prevent or manage chronic conditions. These solutions can be potentially scaled up in future to help more Singaporeans.”   Read more about HPB’s collaborations at: https://lnkd.in/gBYC2V9J   Image 1 – Under the DigiCoach programme, participants receive a weekly Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) report with a Glucose Score to help them understand how their diet and physical activity affect their glucose levels. (Image: Health2Sync Pte Ltd)   Images 2 & 3 – These are mock-up screenshots of Wellness Scores calculated from clinical and lifestyle information under the HealthTrack SG programme. It’s not work when you enjoy what you do. May sound cliche but it’s just the way it is. Today, we showed appreciation to our Health Ambassasors who come alongside us to spread the importance of healthy living to many. I have grown up with many of them and many of them have educated me about being present. When you see the HPB Health Ambassadors at deployment, it can be so mind blowing. Their dedication, commitment - they have my deepest respect. Kudos to Bryan Quek, Lee Yee and central team for inviting me to be part of today’s luncheon. And to all of you Health Ambassasors, thank you for keeping the passion strong.

Organised by Health Promotion Board's Ministry of Fun, this memorable afternoon brought together Health Promotion Board volunteers and seniors from St Luke's ElderCare for a meaningful popiah-making session.   The 18 Oct 2024 event was not just about creating delicious popiah—it was an opportunity to foster connections, promote healthier choices, and support active ageing. Our seniors were encouraged to use less sauce, savor the natural flavors of fresh ingredients like turnip, lettuce, and carrots, and make mindful choices for a balanced diet.   A big thank you to the amazing team from Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Popiah for guiding us, and to all our volunteers for making this event possible! At Health Promotion Board, we believe in the importance of staying socially engaged and making thoughtful lifestyle choices to support both physical and mental well-being.   #CSR #ActiveAgeing #CommunityEngagement #HPB #HealthyLiving #MinistryOfFun #Volunteerism

This World Mental Health Day, we had the incredible opportunity to participate in the "Colour Your World" event, organized by the Zonta Club of Singapore at Singapore Institute of Management Atrium & Auditorium.   Ms. Alice Ong, Health Promotion Board Director of Preventive Health Programmes & Rewards, joined a panel of inspiring speakers while 9 enthusiastic HPB staff members rolled up their sleeves for a fun-filled batik printing session. Together, we created a vibrant piece of art that will be gifted to the staff lounge at Sengkang General Hospital. We hope it brings a splash of joy to those who dedicate themselves to caring for our community.   This event reminded us that mental well-being is not just about support—it's also about connection and creativity. Let’s continue to celebrate and prioritize mental health, leveraging on the power of creativity to uplift our spirits and strengthen our community.     #WorldMentalHealthDay #ColourYourWorld #HealthPromotion #MentalHealthMatters #ZontaClub #BatikArt

I’m an avid reader of Ms Sumiko Tan’s column in our national newspaper The Straits Times, so when the opportunity came for the Health Promotion Board to work with her on a piece to educate the public on the importance of protein, we were happy to jump on the bandwagon. The article highlighted several key messages of consuming sufficient protein in our diets: 1. The importance of a well-balanced diet based on ‘My Healthy Plate’, as well as protein in building and maintaining muscle mass (along with physical activity), and in slowing the progression of sarcopenia, which can occur from as early as the age of 40. 2. Why protein should be taken throughout the day, and ways in which one can incorporate sufficient protein into their meals by making simple adjustments to the diet, including the various types of animal and plant-based proteins that can be included in meals. 3. Complementary pairings to make plant-based proteins “complete”, going for lean cuts of red meat and removing visible fat and skin of poultry to reduce saturated fat intake when opting for animal proteins, as well as choosing options that are lower in sugar, saturated fat and sodium. 4. Consuming sufficient protein is not onerous, one just has to be more conscious about eating enough protein, and across all meals. Thanks to my colleagues Siah Ai Di for coordinating this piece with Sumiko, and Valerie Tay for being the key spokesperson to share HPB’s messages on protein!

We are very pleased that Singapore has received the World Health Organization (WHO) Healthy Cities Recognition Award!   This award by the WHO Western Pacific Region has recognised Singapore for its Nutri-Grade measures in transforming food environments to improve public health. https://lnkd.in/gTj3fCva   Health Promotion Board’s Director of Policy & Strategy Development, Mr. Terence Ng, received the award at the 10th Global Conference of the Alliance for Healthy Cities in Seoul, representing the many teams who had come together to conceptualise and implement the Nutri-Grade measures.   The award demonstrates the practicality of the measures in empowering consumers to make healthier choices, driving industry reformulation, and shaping the food landscape to improve the health of our population.
