Being at the forefront means to boldly push boundaries and build diverse collaborations to help shape health behaviour
About us
Established in 2001, the Health Promotion Board (HPB)'s vision is to build a nation of healthy people. While residents in Singapore today enjoy good health with high life expectancy and low mortality rates, we want to further improve our health status and continue to enjoy good health as we age. To achieve this, we serve as the main driver for national health promotion and disease prevention programmes. Our goal is to increase the quality and years of healthy life and prevent illness, disability and premature death. We implement programmes that reach out to the population, specifically children, adults and the elderly. These programmes include health and dental services for school children, breast and cervical screening, AIDS education, childhood injury prevention, mental health education, myopia prevention, physical activity, smoking control, nutrition, osteoporosis education and workplace health promotion. New programmes will also be initiated over time to address health concerns among the community.

The halls, and sometimes, corridors, resonated with laughter as children and parents matched, jumped or shuffled their way through another edition of ‘You Are Your Child’s First Influencer – roving carnival’. Over 20,000 participated in the roving carnival that kickstarted its rounds at the Families for Life's National Family Festival 2024. 56 parents also bared their souls and shared inspiring stories of their wake-up moments and the pains they went through to nurture healthier habits in their children. Look out for some of these stories on Parent Hub https://lnkd.in/g8whvC3U At the mock-up cooked foods cart, children were having fun finding their favourite foods to make up their My Healthy Plate. It was pure fun to see fish, wholegrain breads and broccoli flying into the My Healthy Plate goal post. Fun Fact #1 - Children simply love their broccoli as we had to replace that many times. Captain Happy entertained many during her unanticipated rounds too. Fun Fact #2 – Captain Happy is always happy because she eats according to My Healthy Plate, exercises at least 60 minutes a day, sleeps 9 hours everyday and stays entertained with the Becky Bunny Family. What’s your secret to being happy? None of this would have been possible without our strategic partners – Families for Life, National Library Board and Sport Singapore. A huge call out to you for being our 1st supporter, 1st teacher and 1st coach last year. You Are Your Child’s First Influencer roving carnival will be taking a short break. Health Promotion Board reposted this
Singaporeans consume too much salt, with the average person consuming almost double the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommended daily limit of 2,000 mg. The rate of hypertension in Singapore has almost doubled since 2010. Consuming too much salt can lead to high blood pressure, which can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems. I still remember cold calling Winlin from Sim Soon Heng Cooking Ingredients pte ltd and making my way down to Defu Lane to promote the Health Promotion Board’s Healthier Ingredient Development Scheme (HIDS) and convince them that it is worthwhile tapping on the grant and working with us to increase the supply and variety of lower sugar and sodium sauces in the market. Change takes time, it took us years to change the nation’s palette for full-sugared drinks to default lower or zero-sugar drinks sold at major supermarkets and F&B outlets today. It may take us that amount of time to change people’s palette for salt used in popular local dishes but it is an effort worth investing in, and the HIDS grant and programmes are here to help our food manufacturing partners embark on that important journey.
HPB aims to reach out to all 110 hawker centres about lower-sodium options by mid-2025

Shaping the Future of Prevention and Management of Chronic Conditions with Technology and Innovation The Health Promotion Board is partnering technology and healthcare companies on two pilot programmes that can provide real-time feedback and personalised insights on how to improve the health of Singaporeans. The two programmes are designed to provide personalised feedback, delivered through technology and coaching platforms that HPB developed in collaboration with our partners. Up to 6,000 Singaporeans will be involved in the programmes, which will empower individuals with tailored support, aimed to nudge positive behaviour change and help them prevent or manage chronic conditions. Mr. Choon Hong Tay, Chief Executive Officer, Health Promotion Board, said: “Health Promotion Board is constantly pursuing innovations that enable Singaporeans to better manage their own health. Our latest collaborations with Abbott and Health2Sync 智抗糖 on the DigiCoach programme, and with Google, ConnectedLife Health and Fullerton Health on the HealthTrack SG programme, will allow us to trial new solutions that deliver more timely and actionable recommendations to Singaporeans to prevent or manage chronic conditions. These solutions can be potentially scaled up in future to help more Singaporeans.” Read more about HPB’s collaborations at: https://lnkd.in/gBYC2V9J Image 1 – Under the DigiCoach programme, participants receive a weekly Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) report with a Glucose Score to help them understand how their diet and physical activity affect their glucose levels.
