In our management for 20 years, MR tanker Maritime Tuntiga, recently completed its 4th special survey at IMC Zhoushan Shipyard in China. Meet Usha, our newly-joined Fleet Personnel Manager at IMC Ship Management. With over 16 years of experience in the maritime industry, she started as a Crewing Assistant before steadily rising through the ranks. According to Usha, she stumbled into the maritime industry by chance. “I graduated with a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Human Resources, during the 2008 recession,” she recalls. “I accepted the first job offer that came my way, which just so happened to be in shipping. Initially, I thought it would be temporary. However, I quickly fell in love with the dynamic nature of the job. The industry's ever-changing landscape and diverse interactions ensure that no two days are ever the same!” This fascination led her to pursue a Diploma in Shipping and Marine Offshore as part of her #ContinuousLearning journey. Operating in a male-dominated industry has convinced Usha of the importance of having more diversity in shipping. “Women bring diverse perspectives and skills, contributing to a more inclusive workplace culture. Companies that embrace these differences benefit from enhanced decision-making and adaptability," she shared. Speaking on IMC Ship Management’s #CommitmentToDiversity, Usha said: “I was pleasantly surprised to learn that almost half of the employees here are women.” She also felt empowered knowing that her manager valued her soft skills and experiences, and was willing to allow her to grow into a role she had not taken up before.
