  • A Toast to Sustainability: Cocoa Lager Collaboration We’re proud to announce a unique collaboration between us and the visionary chocolatier Janice Wong. Together, we’ve crafted a Cocoa Lager, a Pilsner that redefines sustainability in brewing (p.s. huge thanks to Innovate360 for the link up previously). This innovative beer is made with upcycled cocoa bean shells, a by-product from Janice Wong’s famous chocolates. The result is a lager with a delicate, evolving cocoa aroma — a testament to how creativity and sustainability can come together in a delicious way. At Mottainai Food Tech, our mission is to give new life to overlooked ingredients, transforming food by-products into meaningful innovations.   • Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting around 50 Primary 6 students from Rulang Primary School at Tai Hua Food Industries Pte Ltd. Together with the Tai Hua team, we shared our journey, the exciting collaboration between our companies, and our joint commitment to sustainability and innovation in the food industry. Our co-founders, Jian Yong Chua and Daryl Pek also shared insights into their educational paths, work experiences, and their entrepreneurial journey with Mottainai Food Tech. It was an insightful and fun day, and we’re excited to host the next batch of students at our new production plant once it’s up and running!

We’re looking for talented individuals to join our team as we scale our flagship product, Jiro Meat, made from upcycled okara (soybean pulp). We have two exciting opportunities available: 🔬 Food Technologist This is a degree-level position requiring a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Technology or Food Science & Nutrition. As a Food Technologist, you will play a key role in upscaling Jiro Meat from lab development to full commercial production. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that our products meet global standards by supporting certification processes like Halal and ISO. Additionally, you will conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for our products, and lead research and development (R&D) trials to enhance the versatility of Jiro Meat and other food by-products. You will also have the opportunity to represent MTN at trade shows and industry events, promoting our products and mission.   • 🌱 **Featuring Jiro Meat at Deal Fridays** 🌱 We’re excited to have been part of the recent #DealFridays event, organised in partnership with HSBC, Enterprise Singapore, and Trendlines Agrifood Innovation Centre! It was an incredible opportunity to showcase how we are contributing to the future of the global #agrifood industry with our plant-based creation—Jiro Meat. Our highly nutritious Jiro Meat, which is made using a high percentage of upcycled okara (a by-product of tofu, soy milk production), was featured in a flavorful Ma Po Tofu dish, curated by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group's Executive Chef, Eric Tan. This dish highlights our mission to deliver sustainable, climate-resilient food solutions while maintaining amazing flavors. It was inspiring to share about our company, our flagship Jiro Meat, and also engage with over 90 attendees, including investors, corporates, and fellow #startups.     A future full of flavour. Last Friday, we held our first #DealFridays of the year in partnership with HSBC. From fish soup “cappuccino” to probiotic shots, our #agrifood startups re-imagined the future of our global #agrifood system, curating five delicious dishes with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s Executive Chef, Mr Eric Tan. It was a gastronomic journey for our network of invited investors, corporates and #startups, as we witnessed the creation of future-proofed dishes through the use of unconventional ingredients such as okara-based meat and on-demand insect pollinated strawberries. Each startup’s pitch illustrated how #Singapore’s agrifood industry is building a climate-resilient future equipped to face supply chain vulnerabilities arising from global demographic shifts, international trade challenges and depleting natural resources. Together, over 90 attendees joined the session to bring agrifood innovations forward, discussing opportunities for future-proofed food, precision agriculture, and innovative solutions to address agrifood sustainability.   • We are thrilled to announce that our founder, Daryl Pek, has been appointed as an Assistant Director in the 31st Executive Committee of the Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association (SFMA) during the investiture ceremony officiated by Minister of State Alvin Tan. This appointment marks a significant milestone as Daryl continues his family's legacy, representing the third generation of service in the SFMA committee. We are incredibly proud of Daryl and excited to see the positive impact he will bring to SFMA, the food industry and the food technology start-up scene as a whole.

  • We know we're a bit late, but we couldn't miss sharing about these amazing events we supported recently!🎉 🌍Sustainability & Clean Environment Convention (SCEC): At SCEC 2024, our co-founder, Dr Jian Yong Chua had the honor of presenting in the "Closing the Loop: Innovations for Better Resource Circularity" segment. We discussed how century old techniques e.g. fermentation can tackle food waste challenges in Singapore. It was inspiring to share insights on sustainable food technologies and their role in combating climate change. 🌱 Youth Environment Leaders Immersion Programme (YIP) at CleanEnviro Summit Singapore: Our team, as winners of the DBS Foundation-NEA Hungry for Change Challenge 2022, were invited to network with fellow youth leaders, engage with industry stakeholders, and showcase our flagship Jiro Meat and its potential applications in food end products. We also had the honour to engage Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Yam Keng Baey, amongst many others. A big thanks to National Environment Agency, Jayne Tong and Kang Li, for inviting us and everyone who participated in making this such a fun and collaborative event!
