Enabling a Sustainable Future with Additive Manufacturing
About us
The National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC) is a national platform led by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), supported by the National Research Foundation under the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, together with Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Economic Development Board. NAMIC aims to accelerate the adoption of hybrid and digital additive manufacturing technologies under Singapore's Manufacturing and Economy 2030 Vision, helping industries transform towards innovation and high value-added manufacturing using sustainably sourced, nature-based designs and cradle-to-cradle on-demand manufacturing. NAMIC achieves this by focusing on value capture and creation through an industry sectorial engagement approach, leveraging on public-private partnerships and R&D investments, supporting translational research, and accelerating industry test-bedding towards commercial scale-up. NAMIC continues to grow its international outreach, identifying and supporting deep-tech companies incorporating AM technologies seeking capital injection either through project joint-funding or its investor networks. NAMIC is happy to be supporting Umami Bioworks and Steakholder Foods in developing cultivated seafood products ready for commercialisation in #Singapore and beyond. UMAMI Bioworks and Steakholder Foods recently announced the feasibility of producing 3D-printed cultivated fish products at scale after a two-year R&D collaboration funded by the Singapore-Israel Industrial R&D (SIIRD) grant. “This collaboration comes at a pivotal moment as Singapore’s aims to achieve food resilience as part of Singapore’s 30 by 30 goal. With the aquaculture sector contributing significantly to this goal, we hope to bolster the cellular agriculture industry as an alternative to the agri-food industry by leveraging on Steakholder Foods’ proprietary 3D printing technology and Umami Bioworks’ cultivated bioproduct expertise to accelerate the development of alternative seafood products, with comparable taste and texture to natural seafood.” - Dr Ho Chaw Sing, NAMIC CEO Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g3uCuPFU

🤝 AIC and TE Connectivity Forge Groundbreaking Partnership to Advance Additive Manufacturing for Ultra-Fine Feature Electrical Connectors The Additive Innovation Centre (AIC) @ A*STAR and TE Connectivity will be deepening their collaboration to push the boundaries of precision metal additive manufacturing (AM). This partnership builds upon successful projects that have demonstrated the capability of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), in producing functional high-resolution metal parts for high-mix low-volume prototyping and small pilot runs via the SIMTech-developed micro-LPBF system and technology. TE Connectivity is a world leader in connectors and sensors, with strong multi-industry presence from oil & gas / marine to energy solutions and IoT connectivity. AIC is hosted by A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and supported by the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC Singapore). The AM hub serves to drive the industry adoption of A*STAR’s industrial AM solutions. Since 2021, TE Connectivity with SIMTech has been exploring fine feature AM as a potential manufacturing solution for alloys relevant to TE Connectivity’s market segments. The success led to small pilot runs in 2023 and 2024 to deliver innovative parts to design engineers and customers. Looking ahead, TE Connectivity is advancing its AM journey by entering a broader and more strategic partnership led by AIC with A*STAR. This expanded collaboration will focus on refining the AM process to meet growing demands for functional prototyping and production. Key areas of focus include: - Improving surface finishing to enhance part quality - Advancing AM resolution through enhanced printer technology, processes, and new materials system - Increasing build rate productivity to boost manufacturing efficiency - Transferring developed technologies into pilot and/or production settings, in Singapore and beyond "We are excited to continue our work with TE Connectivity and further enhance the capabilities of metal AM," said Dr Sharon Nai, Director of AIC. "This collaboration will not only deepen our understanding of fine feature AM but will also pave the way for industrial applications." Dr Kim Hai W., R&D Manager, TE Connectivity echoed these sentiments "The results we’ve achieved with SIMTech have sharpened TE’s competitive edge and we are excited to enter this new phase of collaboration to translate the advantages of precision AM into innovative, high-quality TE products." This joint effort will accelerate advancements in #additivemanufacturing, positioning both A*STAR and TE Connectivity at the forefront of the evolving AM landscape and setting new benchmarks for the industry. #3Dprinting #collaboration #advancedmanufacturung TE Connectivity | Additive Innovation Centre (AIC) @ A*STAR | NAMIC Singapore | Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology | Kim Hai WONG Ph.D. | Rod Martens | Sharon Nai | Jason Ten | Stephen Wong | Chaw Sing HO

#ICYMI Last week, NAMIC did a joint presentation with Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore and Alstom at the SITCE 2024. The presentations shared about the current state of #AdditiveManufacturing technology in the railway sector, and introduced the ongoing plans to establish a rail transport Joint Industry Programme (JIP) between NAMIC, LTA, Alstom and the public rail operators. As OEMs increasingly adopt 3D printed parts in new trains, the JIP aims to orchestrate more concerted efforts towards developing and implementing digital inventory and warehousing. This will help improve the resiliency, efficiency and sustainability of rail operations in Singapore. The presentations were done by Kelvin Loke | Deputy Director, NAMIC, Wenhao Xu | Engineer, LTA and Amrit Raj Singh | Innovation Leader - Additive Manufacturing, Alstom.

🏆 Another milestone unlocked within the #ASEAN region! Vinmec Times City International Hospital successfully completed a chest wall reconstruction using a 3D printed titanium implant. Developed in collaboration with VinUniversity’s 3D Technology Center in Medicine, this success offers a new solution to large chest wall defects that were previously a significant challenge in #Vietnam. The team at Vinmec integrated an advanced 3D printed titanium implant with a unique mesh that prevents lung hernia while providing vital protection for the heart and lungs for this surgery. The patient could stand and communicate within a day and was discharged within five days, an impressive recovery facilitated by advanced #3DPrinting and targeted pain management techniques. A routine check-up after three weeks showed that the implant remained stable, with the patient’s respiratory function fully restored.
