🤝 AIC and TE Connectivity Forge Groundbreaking Partnership to Advance Additive Manufacturing for Ultra-Fine Feature Electrical Connectors The Additive Innovation Centre (AIC) @ A*STAR and TE Connectivity will be deepening their collaboration to push the boundaries of precision metal additive manufacturing (AM). This partnership builds upon successful projects that have demonstrated the capability of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), in producing functional high-resolution metal parts for high-mix low-volume prototyping and small pilot runs via the SIMTech-developed micro-LPBF system and technology. TE Connectivity is a world leader in connectors and sensors, with strong multi-industry presence from oil & gas / marine to energy solutions and IoT connectivity. AIC is hosted by A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and supported by the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC Singapore). The AM hub serves to drive the industry adoption of A*STAR’s industrial AM solutions. Since 2021, TE Connectivity with SIMTech has been exploring fine feature AM as a potential manufacturing solution for alloys relevant to TE Connectivity’s market segments. The success led to small pilot runs in 2023 and 2024 to deliver innovative parts to design engineers and customers. Looking ahead, TE Connectivity is advancing its AM journey by entering a broader and more strategic partnership led by AIC with A*STAR. This expanded collaboration will focus on refining the AM process to meet growing demands for functional prototyping and production. Key areas of focus include: - Improving surface finishing to enhance part quality - Advancing AM resolution through enhanced printer technology, processes, and new materials system - Increasing build rate productivity to boost manufacturing efficiency - Transferring developed technologies into pilot and/or production settings, in Singapore and beyond "We are excited to continue our work with TE Connectivity and further enhance the capabilities of metal AM," said Dr Sharon Nai, Director of AIC. 🤝 Partnership between Additive Innovation Centre (AIC) and ELH Tech for cost-effective, high-throughput AM technologies   ELH Additive Manufacturing, a leading additive manufacturing (AM) service bureau in Singapore, has successfully transitioned from traditional manufacturing to advanced manufacturing through the integration of additive manufacturing processes. The company has now announced a strategic collaboration with the Additive Innovation Centre (AIC) @ A*STAR, hosted at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and supported by the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC Singapore). This partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced metal and polymer AM technologies across Singapore’s industrial landscape.   “This collaboration is set to transform the manufacturing industries in sectors, such as precision engineering, semiconductors, and aerospace by providing faster, more efficient, and cost-effective advanced manufacturing solutions. 📈 The global additive manufacturing (AM) market grew 11% in 2023 and is projected to reach > S$53B by 2028. ❓How can we use this opportunity to further grow our AM sector? 👉 I suggested 3 ways, at yesterday’s NAMIC Singapore Global Additive Manufacturing Summit 2024: 1️⃣ Growing green 🌱 AM companies are ideal for going green, as AM products tend to use less material, less energy, and need less transportation than traditional manufacturing. 2️⃣ Growing with AI 🤖 Our AM companies are using AI to optimise material combinations, including sustainable or recycled ones, to improve product performance and environmental sustainability. 3️⃣ Growing with partnerships 🤝 Co-locating GAMS 2024 with ITAP 2024, a trade show that exhibits manufacturing innovations from Singapore and abroad, allows AM companies to build relations with similar business and govt partners. We witnessed the signing of deals this week, between NAMIC and a few organisations, including Engtek Group, SkillsFuture SG , ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and Jaringan Semangat Sdn Bhd. 💪Jia Yee (Eleora) Teo, one of the founders of Castomize, a local medtech startup which produces 4D-printed casts showed me their customised casts. ✅Unlike conventional casts, which are not reusable, Castomize’s casts can be easily removed, reshaped or adjusted as the patient heals, minimising waste. They also provide the same rigidity for a tenth of the material needed to produce normal casts. ⭐️Companies like Castomize are examples of how innovative AM solutions can be sustainable! 👉Want to grow your AM company or explore AM solutions?
