Dr Bien Lai, Senior Consultant and Head, Paediatric Dentistry, Department of Restorative Dentistry, was recently interviewed by Mediacorp Channel 8 on the topic of childhood caries and the Infant Oral Health Programme. In the interview Dr Bien Lai shared on the importance of regular dentist visits, as opposed to only doing so when a dental problem arises and recommends the first dental visit by the age of one. Regular visits help with early detection and allows for the use of non-invasive treatments. A/Prof Fabio Leite - Principal Investigator II, was recently invited to speak at The Budding Life Symposium organised by the ASEAN Microbiome Nutrition Centre (AMNC) and the National University of Singapore (NUS). A/Prof Fabio gave a talk titled "From Harmony to Chaos and Back: Insights into the Oral Cavity and Its Impact on Health" which explored: - How systemic factors shape the oral microbiome from early life, starting in the womb, and how maternal health, birth mode, and early immune development influence its formation. - The impact of societal transitions like changes in diet due to agriculture, industrialisation, and processed foods on the prevalence of oral diseases, such as dental caries and periodontitis. - The importance of addressing systemic drivers of dysbiosis to restore balance in the oral microbiome for better health outcomes globally. The symposium was organised to help bridge the gap between explorative microbiome research and translational medicine in Singapore. #NationalDentalCentreSingapore #NDCS #SingHealth

NDCS recently took part in a Community Health Screening & Mini Health Carnival held at NTUC Health@Jalan Bukit Merah. The oral health educational booth saw our oral health therapists Ms Tharannum D/O Rafiq Govindasamy Abdullah and Ms Nadia Binte Ariffin on site to help educate residents on oral healthcare. This is part of NDCS’ community outreach efforts to educate residents on oral healthcare. The event attracted around 115 residents who received oral care products sponsored by Lion Corporation upon completing an oral health quiz. Participating in community outreach activities such as this are part of NDCS’ Population Oral Health Strategies, which will be consistently implemented to promote and improve oral healthcare in Singapore. #NationalDentalCentreSingapore #NDCS #SingHealth
