  • Dr Shaun Goh, Education Research Scientist at NIE's Centre for Research in Child Development, sheds light on a condition that often goes unnoticed. #DidYouKnow that Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) affects 7-8% of preschool children? Despite its prevalence, DLD remains widely unrecognised. Children with DLD face significant challenges with understanding and using verbal language, impacting their academics, relationships, and mental health. These difficulties occur even in the absence of conditions like autism or intellectual disabilities. DLD makes everyday tasks like expressing emotions, communicating in multiple languages, or following classroom instructions harder for affected children. But with the right support—such as simplified communication, visual aids, and professional intervention—children with DLD can thrive. Let’s raise awareness and foster understanding of this hidden condition. Learn more about DLD and how we can support affected children in his full article at https://lnkd.in/ghY9dJ_v #DLD #DevelopmentalLanguageDisorder #InclusiveEducation #LanguageMatters #SupportDLD

  • 🎵 Chenwei Wang on the Art and Responsibility of Composition 🎶 What does it take to compose music that resonates across cultures and generations? Wang Chenwei, Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s Composer-in-Residence and the NIE’s Visiting Artist, believes it’s more than creativity—it’s about respect, understanding, and a deep dive into diverse cultural traditions. In his words: “Composition is a highly competitive profession because those walking the Earth are competing against those residing in heaven.” For Chenwei, crafting unique works requires going beyond conventional education to explore the traditional music of various cultures. He advocates for a thoughtful, respectful approach to transculturality, ensuring his compositions reflect authenticity rather than appropriation. As an adjunct faculty member at the NIE, Chenwei carries this ethos into his teaching, helping future educators integrate creativity, logic, and cultural understanding into their work. He reminds us that composition isn’t merely sequencing notes—it’s about cultivating unique insights that transcend music. Watch this exclusive interview with Chenwei to explore his inspiring perspective and learn how he’s reshaping the future of music education and cultural exchange. #ThoughtLeadership #CulturalCreativity #MusicEducation #NIESingapore #Transculturality
