About us
Established in 1979, the key objectives of the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA) are: 1. To represent members in strategic matters affecting the wider industry through active engagement with regulators, policy makers, and industry bodies. 2. To promote the relevance of and excellence in the industry through education, professional development and best practices. 3. To provide platforms for industry exchange, collaboration, and connection that promote and advance the industry's common interest. 4. To foster public awareness and advance the (re)insurance industry in Singapore and its diverse career opportunities. The SRA is managed by an elected Executive Committee, which comprises senior reinsurance practitioners who dedicate their time on a strictly voluntary basis, supported by a full-time Executive Director and Secretariat team. As of 1 November 2024, the SRA has over 57 members. All major non-life reinsurance companies with a presence in Singapore, as well as some direct insurance companies that write a substantial reinsurance portfolio are Ordinary members of the SRA. In addition, several major reinsurance broking firms as well as some regional reinsurers are Associate members.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Trade & Industry and Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Republic of Singapore
Organised by the Singapore Reinsurers' Association, the Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) is the anchor forum for thought leadership and deal making in Asia for the global reinsurance industry. I delivered the keynote address at the 20th SIRC, which took place recently. In my address, I highlighted how the reinsurance industry could continue to grow in Asia: (i) Enhance climate risk modelling and tailored solutions to address the underinsurance gap from climate change, (ii) Develop innovative de-risking solutions to facilitate the flow of finance towards renewable energy and decarbonisation projects, (iii) Enhance cyber risk underwriting and partnerships to support the growth of the digital economy, and (iv) Step up long-term risk financing solutions to address growing health and retirement financing needs. Singapore, as Asia’s leading reinsurance centre, is well-positioned to address Asia’s evolving risk financing needs as it navigates climate, energy, digital, and demographic transitions. We look forward to working with the insurance industry to support a dynamic, sustainable, and resilient Asia. Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)

Missed the panel discussions from the Singapore International Reinsurance (SIRC) 2024 Day 3? Here are some key insights – Led by Mr. Ian Chapman-Banks, the morning panel tackled the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), featuring Mr. John Maroney, Ms. Wenwen Chen, Ms. Sofia Kyriakopoulou, and Ms. Anne-Kathrin Lohbeck. While the speakers agreed that AI provides tremendous opportunities for the sector to enhance performance and efficiency, they also raised potential risks, recommending that companies establish strong risk management frameworks to safely navigate AI adoption. Keeping with the momentum, the afternoon panel shifted to data management with Ms. Hui Yen Tai, Ms. Anusha Thavarajah, Mr. Derek Shi, Mr. Masaru Kikukawa, and Mr. Rob Newbold as they discussed the critical role of data as the industry’s “gold”. The panel underscored the importance of careful data collection, which will be crucial for useful insights and building more accurate predictive models. Organizations that make data the core of what they do will reap the benefits in the long run. With this, it wraps up three days of robust panel discussions at the SIRC 2024. We look forward to seeing everyone for the final day tomorrow! Day 2 of the Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) saw invaluable insights from two robust panel discussions. In the opening panel addressing the realities of the current risk environment, Mr. Matt Carletti, Ms. Dawn Miller, Dr. Achim Kassow, and Mr. Clemens Philippi comprehensively discussed resilience building from multiple fronts. Key points include the importance of long-term partnerships, embracing new technologies as a co-pilot to the industry, and being intentional in attracting and retaining talent for the sector to navigate the volatility of a rapidly changing world. The discussion then turned to the fight for talent, where Ms. Sze Keed Wong , Ms. Valerie Badcock, Ms. Moira Roberts, Mr. Thomas W. Hofer, and Mr. James Beedle highlighted the limited understanding of the sector and the perceived lack of clear career paths as key obstacles to attracting and retaining talent. This points to the importance for companies to articulate clear purpose, provide equal opportunity, and prioritize flexibility to support a diverse talent pool. Look forward to Day 3 of SIRC 2024 tomorrow where we continue important conversations that pave the way forward. Stay tuned!
