When Eugene Wang’s daughter, Sophie, developed a severe shellfish allergy, he set out to create a solution. Drawing on his family's expertise in manufacturing plant-based foods, Eugene embarked on a mission to make ocean nutrients accessible in a way that protects animals. He first founded Sophie’s Kitchen, the world’s first plant-based seafood company. But then his research into microalgae and its massive potential to develop seafood alternatives led to a pivotal decision: selling Sophie’s Kitchen to launch a new venture in Singapore, Sophie's BioNutrients. With substantial support and funding, the transition proved seamless, both professionally and personally. Today, Sophie's BioNutrients is revolutionising the food industry with allergen-free dairy, plant-based seafood, and protein alternatives. As CEO, Eugene’s work is paving the way for a more sustainable and ethical future in food. Read more about Eugene’s inspiring story: https://lnkd.in/g2kZeppX #FoodTech #Innovation #Sustainability

Singapore ranks #9 on Euromonitor International's Top 100 City Destinations Index 2024, marking its debut in the global top 10 for the first time. Destinations were evaluated across six key pillars: economic and business performance, tourism performance, tourism infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety, and sustainability. As one of only two Asian cities in the top 10 (alongside Tokyo at #3), Singapore’s ranking was due to its strong economic performance and innovative tourism policies. Born in Queens, New York, to Korean immigrant parents, former Slack CFO Allen Shim understood the value of hard work and determination. He took those lessons to heart as he built his career in tech as he graduated from The Wharton School, eventually joining Yahoo, and Slack afterwards, where he was hired as employee #20. Following Slack’s acquisition, Allen moved to an advisory role at Salesforce. That was when he and his wife began considering opportunities overseas. There were three criteria for their new home: it had to be English-speaking, COVID-safe, and have a warm climate. Finally, a global search led them to Singapore. “A developed place with a blend of East and West seemed like a good fit for us as Asian Americans,” Allen adds. In his research, he came upon the Tech.Pass, a newly launched visa offering top-tier tech professionals the flexibility to take on multiple roles, be it founder, consultant, lecturer, investor or director. Now, as the founder of Anderson Point Consulting, Allen is paying it forward by advising and investing in regional tech firms. 'The biggest, most tangible impact I can make is helping some of these younger companies and founders,’ he says. ‘Singapore, with its vibrant tech scene, is the perfect place.’ Read on to discover how he's paying it forward to help the next generation of innovators thrive: https://lnkd.in/g3Bmmviv #Entrepreneurship #TechLeadership #RelocationStory #TechPass

While out on a dive to check the health of Singapore’s coral reefs, Sam Shu Qin 岑淑芹 made a startling discovery: a washing machine discarded at the bottom of the sea. The sight jolted her into action. She co-founded Our Singapore Reefs to restore Singapore’s coral reefs and more – cleaning up marine litter and raising awareness about marine biodiversity. Since then, Sam has led countless dive clean-ups, engaging over 1,000 volunteer divers, and educated communities on the critical need to protect Singapore's fragile marine ecosystems. Her commitment extends beyond our shores, with regional efforts in Bali and Timor-Leste to restore coral reefs and empower coastal communities. As a finalist for The Straits Times’ Singaporean of the Year award, Sam proves just how much one person’s passion and determination can spark a movement and make a positive impact on both nature and society.
