About us
The Society Against Family Violence was established to prevent and reduce the incidence of family violence; encourage and provide support and therapeutic services for the victims of family violence; encourage and provide rehabilitative services for perpetrators of family violence.
We don't have employees actually; instead, we are a handful of individuals in the social services field who have a special passion for working towards eliminating family violence in our society. We volunteer our time and expertise by sharing what we learn and know from our work, reading, and practice, and then, either on our own or often through collaboration with other organisations, share our suggestions with the public, authorities and NGOs in the hopes of change.

𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞: 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐈𝐏𝐕 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Intimate partner violence (IPV) continues to plague our communities, with devastating consequences for victims and their families. Recent research sheds light on a crucial factor that potentially fuels this cycle: childhood exposure to IPV. A compelling study published in 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝘽𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙧 by Olga Cunha and colleagues explores this connection in men convicted of IPV. Their findings reveal a concerning trend: 𝒎𝒆𝒏 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝑰𝑷𝑽 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅, 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐏𝐇𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐆𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍, 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒙𝒉𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒈𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅, 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚, 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑰𝑷𝑽 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒂𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: 👉 Exposure to childhood IPV significantly increases the likelihood of perpetrating IPV in adulthood. 👉 Aggression plays a mediating role in this relationship, suggesting that addressing aggression may be crucial in breaking the cycle of IPV. This study reinforces the importance of considering Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in IPV intervention programs. Tailored strategies to address 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 can potentially equip individuals with the tools to break free from destructive patterns.
