As the year winds down, we're filled with gratitude for the incredible partnerships we've forged. These collaborations have allowed us to harness the power of music to give back and make a tangible difference in the world. Here's a glimpse of what we've accomplished together: 🥁 Empowering young minds: Working with our newest partner Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) to support dyslexic students in expressing themselves through music, such as their Chinese drums performance. 🌏 Building resilience globally: Developing animated disaster resilience jingles with COPE Disaster Champions that are now accessible to children worldwide through the UNICEF Learning Passport. 🚆 Innovating for accessibility: Creating a series of train chimes with SMRT Corporation Ltd to enhance the commuting experience for visually impaired individuals. 🧑🏻🎓 Nurturing future talents: Continuing our scholarship programme with Mapletree to support aspiring local musicians on their journey to master Chinese music. These are just a few of the many collaborations that we’ve had the privilege of embarking on this year, we're excited to see what the future holds and we look forward to creating even more impactful musical experiences. #thetengcompany #musicforgood

We named our company TENG, which represents the sound of a drum in the past. This choice reflects our unwavering dedication to creating timeless and authentic work. Aligned to this purpose, our Head of Outreach, Nancy Ong, has been leading many initiatives that harness the power of music as a force for good. In her journey, she has identified three essential skills for effectively supporting vulnerable communities: empathy, active listening, and adaptability. It's crucial to design programmes that cater to the specific needs and backgrounds of each community. Empathy and active listening are essential to understand their true needs, while adaptability allows for adjusting and modifying programmes to ensure participants can learn and engage at their own pace. One of Nancy's many initiatives is our In-School Programmes for Targeted Students. They empower vulnerable students to express themselves freely through the Chinese drums. Learn more about the programme from Nancy and Amaryllis, one of her students from the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), below! #thetengcompany #musicforgood

Four years ago, we embarked on a collaborative journey with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to explore the therapeutic potential of music. Our partnership began with a study on binaural beats in Chinese instrumental music, leading to the launch of our Music for Mindfulness collection in 2023. Building on this success, we recently released a version without binaural beats on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music to bring the calming tunes based off elements of nature like the Earth, Hills and Rain closer to you. We are grateful to the team at SIT and in particular, faculty members from the Health and Social Sciences Department for the partnership and for aiding us to develop research-backed music throughout these years. We will continue to utilise new findings into our upcoming productions: 👵🏻 Our recent study conducted in collaboration with SIT revealed improvements in anxiety, stress, mood and chronic pain levels after older adults in Singapore were exposed to Chinese instrumental music which were embedded with binaural beats. With seniors as one of our key beneficiaries, this provides helpful insight for our ongoing collaborations with various organisations and partners as part of #TENGGivesBack. This valuable partnership has been the bedrock for our innovative music developments and we look forward to producing more music that positively impacts our society and community.💫 Stay tuned for our latest insights on the use of monaural beats for future innovations in music! 🎶 #thetengcompany #musicforgood #musicformindfulness

Having played the Dizi for over 20 years, musician Joyce Poh has cumulated a wealth of experience in mastering her musical craft, which extends beyond the stage to performances in hospitals, polyclinics and community care centres. Joyce is also part of TENG Gives Back since its inception in 2018. Alongside the dedication of nurses and volunteers who spend their time engaging seniors in various activities, she found that music has the power to help senior beneficiaries feel seen, appreciated, and cared for during a vulnerable stage in their lives. Reflecting on her work with TENG Gives Back, Joyce shared that performers need to be compassionate even when someone does not enjoy, or interrupts their performances, while remaining sensitive to the emotional needs of the audience. Many patients and residents deal with frustration, illness, or depression – and music offers an outlet for them to express their emotions through laughter, tears, or excitement. Interested to find out more about Joyce’s work? Read on below! #thetengcompany #musicforgood

Our latest jingles in partnership with COPE Disaster Champions teaches children on the critical measures to undertake in the case of an earthquake. The jingle utilises a catchy jingle coupled with the message of "Drop, Cover, and Hold!" to educate children in an engaging manner. More jingles are in development to educate children on how to respond to other natural disasters such as floods and landslides. These jingles will also be distributed via UNICEF’s Learning Passport. To find out more about these animations and jingles, visit https://lnkd.in/grnw-Xch
Jingles are a wonderful way to capture children's attention and teach them essential safety lessons. Our new Earthquake jingle makes learning about earthquake preparedness fun and memorable, helping kids understand the critical Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) message: "DROP, COVER & HOLD." With its engaging tune, children can easily remember how to protect themselves during an earthquake, empowering them to respond safely in emergencies. The TENG Company took part in the inaugural HKPAX | Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 香港演藝博覽 over the past week to connect with other international arts groups and organisations as well as to showcase our creative work through the exhibition. It was an enriching experience to be able to meet and network with others on a global stage and also participate in the diverse programmes offered by the expo. Here are three takeaways from our time in HKPAX: 🌐 Building Global Connections – Our participation at HKPAX facilitated the establishment of meaningful connections with other arts organisations such as Hong Kong Dance Company 香港舞蹈團. These new relationships have opened the doors for potential future collaborations, enabling us to expand the reach of our musical heritage even further. 🎶 Cultural Exchange & Learning – HKPAX's diverse programmes offered valuable insights into various performance styles and artistic expressions from around the world. This exchange of ideas has enriched our perspective and reinforced our belief in the power of music to transcend cultural boundaries. 💡 Future Projects & Inspirations – The range of performances and cultural offerings has given inspiration to our creative and artistic innovations. We are excited to see how this will energise us to evolve in our future projects in sharing our uniquely Singaporean music identity with the world. Congrats to HKPAX | Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 香港演藝博覽 on the success of its inaugural edition! It was a truly insightful time at the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.

Led a delegation from The TENG Company and participated in the inaugural HKPAX | Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 香港演藝博覽 that brought together the performing arts around Asia and beyond. We had a booth at the expo too and I managed to catch up with old friends and make new ones from around the world! Watched various concerts and even got caught in action in the HKPAX promotional video! More importantly, brought my team of staff and opened their eyes to the global network in the performing arts. It was a learning experience for all of us ! #TheTENGCompany #MusicForGood #CulturalInnovation #Chineseculture #Ethnomusicology #CreativeLeadership #culturalmanagement #performingarts #hongkong #artsandculture

It was a spectacular evening at the last concert of TENG's 20th Anniversary celebrations last week with over 400 people coming down to support "Transcendence II 弦韵", a remarkable showcase of Erhu talent as part of The TENG Recital Series at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. The TENG Recital Series aims to educate on different Chinese instruments and also serve as a platform for budding musicians to showcase their talents. Led by The TENG Ensemble's Darrel Xin, Transcendence II 弦韵 featured The TENG Ensemble musicians Ryan Lim and Lim Kwuan Boon, Mapletree-TENG Scholar Clarissa See, and six other young talented performers in a selection of solo and ensemble pieces. TENG's initiative to provide performance opportunities such as this is part of its broader goal to raise the performance level among learners of all ages and ultimately enrich the local Chinese music ecosystem. Special thanks to Mapletree for supporting this concert and thank you to everyone else who attended and made TENG's final concert of the year a roaring success!

Congratulations Temasek on your 50th Anniversary! It was an honour for The TENG Ensemble to have graced Temasek's 50th Anniversary celebrations and perform for esteemed guests as part of the momentous evening. The TENG Company has been privileged to receive support over the years from Temasek Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organisation within the Temasek ecosystem. For the opening performance of the evening's celebrations, the ensemble performed Kallang Uproar, a piece most recently rearranged for The Singaporean Composers Series concert catalysed by Temasek Foundation. Inspired by Singapore's Kallang Roar, the contemporary interpretation incorporates upbeat tempos and symbolises the tenacity of a new generation. Once again, congratulations to Temasek on this significant milestone! Here's to many more years of continued success. #Temasek50 Photo credit: Temasek
