This summit, based on the Model United Nations framework, provided an opportunity for our students to engage in critical discussions on pressing global issues—from equitable access to medicines to resilient global supply chains and Asia-Pacific social welfare systems. 🌎🔍 Outstanding Achievement & Recognition 🎉 Congratulations to Chloe Khoo for winning the ‘Outstanding Delegate’ award, recognizing her exceptional diplomatic acumen and contributions throughout the discussions! Reflections from Our Delegates 🔹 "The Model United Nations (MUN) framework is a great platform for boosting confidence and enhancing public speaking skills!" – Chloe Khoo (PFP/DES) 🔹 "I developed two valuable skills—collaborating with unfamiliar people and thinking on my feet!" – Harpreet Kaur (PFP/BUS) 🔹 "GYLS enhanced my public speaking, teamwork, and adaptability skills while giving me a deeper insight into international diplomacy." – Jeevaguruu Vijayganesh (PFP/BUS) 🔹 "I learned about UN councils and how they work to solve world issues while making great connections with like-minded peers!" – Desiree Fung (HSS/PSY) 🔹 "GYLS reignited my passion for political debate and exposed me to new experiences like participating in a Crisis Committee!" – Ivette Chiew (BUS/LAW) This transformative experience empowered our students with critical thinking, diplomacy, public speaking, and collaboration skills, preparing them to become global leaders of tomorrow. 🌍✨ We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing them apply these skills in the future! 🧡 #TemasekPolytechnic #GYLS2024 #FutureLeaders #ModelUnitedNations #YouthLeadership #GlobalImpact #DiplomacyInAction #CreatingTomorrow

As delegates representing Chad and Germany in the United Nations Environment Assembly, they engaged in rigorous debates, policy-making, and collaborative discussions on key global issues such as disaster risk reduction and climate change. 🌱🌎 Key Takeaways from Our Delegates 💡 "PREPMUN pushed me beyond my comfort zone, expanding my knowledge of world affairs beyond mainstream media. I learned about the environmental struggles of nations like Chad and Mozambique and the importance of global cooperation." – Ong Zhen Hao 💡 "This MUN was an eye-opening experience that helped me understand diverse perspectives and the complexity of international decision-making. I encourage all TP students to participate in at least one MUN!" – Rowan Lee Through their participation, our students honed their critical thinking, diplomacy, and public speaking skills, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and negotiation in addressing global challenges. 💬 We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing them apply these skills in future leadership opportunities! 🧡 #TemasekPolytechnic #PREPMUN2024 #FutureLeaders #ModelUnitedNations #YouthLeadership #GlobalImpact #DiplomacyInAction #CreatingTomorrow

  • 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗕𝗧𝗜 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵𝘀: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 Are personality tests like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as accurate as they seem? On 26 December 2024, Dr Tan Wah Pheow, Head of the Centre for Applied Behavioural Sciences, provided valuable insights into the MBTI test - a tool that categorises individuals into 16 distinct personality types based on their responses to a series of questions. It is one of the most widely known personality tests, often used for candidate screening or to determine an employee's suitability for promotion. However, despite its popularity, there are several myths surrounding the MBTI, leading to misconceptions about its scientific validity (or lack thereof). “From the perspective of many professionals in psychology and behavioural sciences, MBTI is often considered pseudoscience - in simple terms, it’s unreliable and not scientifically valid,” said Dr Tan. Tune into Dr Tan’s recorded interview with Hello Singapore to learn about the science behind personality tests and whether they can accurately predict a person’s personality and behaviour. • 🌍✨ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀: 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 & 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼, 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻! ✨🌍   In an exciting collaboration, Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS/CLS) launched the Technical English 1 (TE1) Programme in Sept 2024, connecting engineering students from National Institute of Technology, Kumamoto (NITK) with Temasek Polytechnic. This unique programme was delivered across two countries, providing students with essential language skills for their future careers.   The first phase took place in Singapore, where 28 NITK students were paired with TP Global Ambassadors. These ambassadors guided the students in improving conversational English. The programme then continued at NITK’s Kumamoto campus, focusing on technical writing, report preparation, and presentation skills in English. ✨   The students and staff were inspired by the warm exchanges and the enriching experiences in both countries. As Teppei Matsumoto from NITK shared, “I’m not very confident in my English, but I really enjoyed the course. The students and teachers were very kind and supportive.”   Huge thanks to everyone involved in making this programme a success, from the TP School of Engineering team, to the dedicated staff at HSS/CLS, Paul Davidson, Ned Low, Sandra Lee, and CHARMAINE OEI, and of course, to the students who made this exchange so memorable. Shout out to the teaching team in Singapore and Kumamoto consisting of Gilbert Rozario, Ted Ollikkala, Melissa Chan, Ei Ting Ang, Ned Low, Jenny Ling and Caroline Lu.   For more information about our English programs for international exchanges, contact Temasek Polytechnic’s Centre for Life Skills. 🤝   Let’s continue to create opportunities for global connections and growth! 🌍💡🧡   #TemasekPolytechnic #TPHSS #HSS #TPcreatingTomorrow #GlobalLearning #CulturalExchange

  • 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀-𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗮-𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘆𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹! 🌏 On Saturday, 21 Sep 2024, 21 students from Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) were specially invited to experience the Seiran-sai Festival Preview at Waseda-Shibuya Senior High School (WSSHS), Singapore’s only Japanese senior high school. This visit aimed to foster cross-cultural understanding by offering students a unique opportunity to engage with their Japanese peers. HSS students were asked to give feedback on WSSHS students' research posters and immersing themselves in Japanese cultural activities. In this way, HSS students experienced traditional and modern Japanese culture firsthand. 🏫🌸🍙 Our HSS students had a memorable day at the Seiran-sai Festival Preview, judging WSSHS students’ insightful poster presentations and immersing themselves in the vibrant festival atmosphere. This event showcased the value of cultural exchange, allowing students to explore different perspectives and engage with their Japanese peers meaningfully.🌟 A warm thank you to WSSHS and WSSHS teacher Rie Nakahara for being wonderful hosts. We also thank Paul Davidson for his leadership and for making this enriching experience possible. We look forward to further collaborations that will strengthen our international ties and enrich the learning journey for our students. 🤝🧡 #TemasekPolytechnic #TPHSS #HSS #TPcreatingTomorrow #CorporateSocialResponsibility #WasedaShibuya #CrossCulturalExchange #SeiranSai #EducationalCollaboration
