With EVs all the rage today, there was no better time to attend our “Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Technology” workshop! More than a dozen technicians from the motor industry did just that, as they familiarised themselves with technologies in EVs that are soon set to overtake combustion engine-driven vehicles. Jointly conducted by engineers from our School of Engineering and K-Tech Auto Solutions Pte Ltd, the workshop was held at the latter’s training lab on 23 Nov 2024.

CONGRATS! to our Aerospace Engineering students, who were part of a team that won the Distinction Award in the annual Space Challenge 2024, held on 22 Nov 2024. Given the challenge of performing a meaningful life science experiment in space, in line with the competition theme of “Living in Space”, the team came up with an experiment to determine the optimal method to increase melanin in the human skin, so as to help reduce the risk of developing diseases caused by space radiation. A huge shout-out to the entire team and their coach, Mdm Sue Siew Chai, for their incredible work and dedication!! 👏🌟Let’s celebrate these innovators shaping the future of space exploration!

Congrats! to our students from the Diploma in Aviation Management (AMS), who bagged the Gold award in the Aviation Safety Competition, organised by the Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers (SIAE) on 15 Nov 2024. Their project, the “Aerospace Tablet”, incorporates Augmented Reality, smart tools and real-time tracking to guide and ensure the safety of aerospace technicians in their aircraft maintenance tasks. Concurrently, a project by our Aerospace Electronics (AEL) students, called the “AeroSense Wear” system for aerospace maintenance personnel, took home the Silver award. The system comprises a VR Apple Vision Pro goggles that displays up-to-date maintenance manuals and alerts the user on hazards like foreign objects, as well as a sensor-embedded safety shirt with health monitoring features to track the well-being of aircraft maintenance personnel. Congratulations to our winning teams! AMS Team: Yu Jing Ng, Subhaan Sulaiman Sait, Tay Cleaven, Wiseley Pang Yan Cong Wiseley, Kai Zhe Khng Supervisor: Ms Ponmagal Periasamy Periasamy AEL Team: Muhammad Haashir, Nurul Hasya bin Rhamat, Nurul Farzanah Bte Gulam Jailani, @Nashwa Talib Bte Talib Supervisors: Mr Ng Kwan Wah, Mr Daniel Low

A ground-breaking wearable device that allows patients to monitor themselves for heart failure, developed by a team of researchers from our School of Engineering, has won the Bronze (Academic) in the annual MOE Innergy Awards 2024, in November. Infusing Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) principles with Artificial Intelligence (AI), the wearable device uses a novel microfluidic pressure sensor developed by the team, achieving 91% diagnostic accuracy in clinical trials done in collaboration with the National Heart Centre, Singapore (NHCS) and the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SCTCM). Congratulations to the team, comprising Mr Zhu Hong (Team Lead), Mr James Wong, Ms Sun Lingling, and Mr Lin Liutong. Concurrently, our lecturer from the Diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Ms Cathy P. Sagun, RCh, clinched the “Outstanding Innovator” award at the same event, for her pioneering work in integrating Augmented Reality (AR), particularly the Human Anatomy Atlas AR courseware, into the curriculum, benefiting hundreds of Biomedical Engineering students.

An opportunity to prep yourself for the industry? Yes please! Three second-year students from Mechatronics participated in an inaugural 2-day Job Shadowing Programme at Micron Semiconductor on 9 Sep 2024, during their semester break. They gained valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of the company, its facilities & culture, as well as the job scope of an Engineer there. Here's a quick glimpse of what they experienced!

Our students from the Diploma in Biomedical Engineering (BME) had a swell time during a study trip to Thailand during our Flex Week (4-8 Nov 2024). Besides exploring the programmes at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and getting valuable insights at Delta Electronics, the BME students also got the chance to experience Thai culture first hand, learn to craft Thai desserts, and of course, to make new friends too! Flex Week, held in the middle of each term, allows students to attend enrichment programmes and go on study trips or industry visits, allowing them to learn outside the classroom!

Student leaders from our various Engineering diplomas, in collaboration with the Association of Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME), conducted a survey on consumers' views of sustainability, to gather valuable insights for the sustainable branding strategies of local small and medium enterprises. The survey was conducted at the Sustainable Christmas Market, held on 16–17 Nov 2024.

It's always better to be safe than sorry, as the saying goes. On the 15 Nov 2024, about a hundred TP staff took part in a safety forum, discussing current security issues and methods to improve safety in the campus. There was even a a Bingo session 🔢 (with prizes to be won, of course!) incorporating a quiz on safety & security issues. Let's make TP a safe and secure campus for all staff and students! 🏡
