For several days, major roads were closed to traffic. Drivers and passengers had to use underground roads and basement pick-up points—places where phones tend to lose network coverage and hence GPS functionality. We’re making it easier for businesses to reach their customers’ doorsteps, whatever kampung (🇲🇾), jalan (🇮🇩), soi (🇹🇭), barangay (🇵🇭) or block (🇸🇬) it may be in. GrabMaps partnered with Loqate, a GBG solution, the global leader in address verification, to integrate rich location data into their platform. The partnership starts in Malaysia, with plans to extend it to Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. GrabMaps’ hyperlocal map data covers the quirks and complexities of various addressing systems across Southeast Asia. Loqate’s solution allows for intuitive address suggestions, verifications, and data integrity and accuracy. This reduces address entry times by 80 per cent and errors by 20 per cent. We had the honor of welcoming Mr. Gan Kim Yong, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, at the Grab HQ last week. During the visit, we shared with Mr Gan our vision of creating better, hyperlocal maps for Southeast Asia and beyond. Many places in Southeast Asian cities and towns are so difficult to map – hidden alleyways, crowded sidestreets – plus different countries have different languages and traffic management systems. Accurate and up-to-date mapping of these places is possible with edge AI, advanced mapmaking cameras, and a region-wide mapmaking community.
