So grateful for the opportunity to attend NeurIPS in Vancouver this year. It still feels surreal to have met so many successful researchers I deeply admire, all in one place. I really enjoyed the talks and poster sessions, and they inspired me with new ideas and directions for my next stage of research. It was also such a joy to catch up with my dear friends Peter Vamplew, Sreya Kumar, and Felix Hofstätter. One of my papers was accepted for an oral presentation at the main conference. I was a total nervous wreck leading up to it, especially since it's my first time presenting with such a large audience, but I’m so relieved that it went smoothly. Thanks to my co-author Wenjun Li for the immense help. 𝕋𝕙𝕖 ℙ𝕒𝕥𝕙 𝕃𝕖𝕤𝕤 𝕋𝕣𝕒𝕧𝕖𝕝𝕖𝕕: ℍ𝕠𝕨 𝕒 𝔻𝕒𝕥𝕒 𝔸𝕟𝕒𝕝𝕪𝕥𝕚𝕔𝕤 𝕃𝕒𝕓 𝕄𝕠𝕕𝕦𝕝𝕖 𝕋𝕣𝕒𝕟𝕤𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕞𝕖𝕕 𝕄𝕪 𝕃𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕁𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕟𝕖𝕪 When choosing between an easier course or the notoriously challenging Data Analytics Lab at SMU, fear and doubt temporarily clouded my mind. Many advised against it for the security of my grades, but two seniors encouraged me to take the leap, saying it would sharpen my edge as a Digital Transformation Professional in the near future. Their advice reminded me of the story of Joshua and Caleb in the Old Testament Numbers Chapter 13 where two spies (against ten spies) who believed in conquering the Land of Canaan despite overwhelming odds. Inspired, I decided to embrace this challenge and enrolled into this analytics course. Fast forward, I joined forces with two incredible professionals from the SMU MITB Fintech track, DUYEN NGO THI MY and Sandra J.. Together, we developed a Tanzanian mobile money study using SAS Viya, analyzing data from 9,900+ responses in just a short span of about 3 weeks with their full-time work and personal commitments. There were times when we felt frustated and disappointed but denying ourselves for the greater mission of expanding our knowledge horizons, and together with a strong, open communication system, we managed to deliver an academic poster and report punctually with excellence and clarity. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my teammates and our wonderful Prof Tin Seong Kam, for your patience and guidance. To me, it will be always an unforgettable time during the August 24/25 term. I am nothing without all of your support! As Henry Ford once said: "Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success." Glad we made this happen! Thank you so much, Kapil Tuli, Pao-Li and David Lo for generously and earnestly sharing your wisdom and insights on what good research supervision means.   Indeed, supervising is a lot like parenting, where every mentee is unique in their personality and research passion, which calls for a tailored approach. It is also both a science and an art to find that optimal balance between nurturing students and challenging them to be their best selves. I fully affirm what was shared about the need to pace oneself in the journey of academia – it is a marathon, not a sprint, and needful breaks in between major milestones are crucial to long-term success.   I was also encouraged by the strong response from the SMU faculty community, and the meaningful discussions we had about managing various supervision scenarios. It is heartening to know that I am in the company of fellow faculty mentors who truly care and are committed to the success of their PhD candidates. Looking forward to future sessions like these and collectively cultivating a culture of peer learning amongst faculty. I’m happy to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: SCS-AWS GenAI (Foundational) Programme from Singapore Computer Society! As someone new to AI, I recently completed a series of courses on AWS Skill Builder that introduced me to the fascinating world of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and generative AI. These courses included: • Introduction to Generative AI - Art of the Possible • Planning a Generative AI Project • Responsible Artificial Intelligence Practices • Foundations of Prompt Engineering • No-code Machine Learning and Generative AI on AWS The courses I took offered a solid foundation in AI, covering diverse topics and practical applications. The "Introduction to Generative AI" course showcased the transformative potential of AI in industries, while "Planning a Generative AI Project" provided insights into aligning AI initiatives with business goals. Ethical considerations were another key focus. The "Responsible AI Practices" course emphasized the importance of fairness, accountability, and transparency in building trustworthy AI systems. The highlight was the hands-on learning with Amazon SageMaker. I learned to prepare data, train models, and deploy machine learning solutions using a no-code approach, making complex concepts accessible even for a beginner like me. I look forward to further improve my knowledge and skills in the AI industry, hoping to sign up for more similar courses!

I'm proud to announce that our team has been nominated for the Dell Technologies Cloud Native Award for our outstanding Final Year Project! Alongside my talented teammates Japheth Leong Ang Wei Sheng Chester Chia Bryan Lee Klement Goh, we developed the Smart Portfolio Optimizer! The Smart Portfolio Optimizer is a full stack cloud-native application that integrates quantitative finance techniques with large language model features. It's designed to enhance risk management, provide best-in-class finance market intelligence, and offer a robust portfolio management platform. This powerful tool empowers portfolio managers to make faster, better, and more reliable decisions in today's dynamic financial landscape. We had the privilege of developing this application in collaboration with our project sponsor, a leading bank specializing in wealth management. The forward-looking nature of our project aligns perfectly with the growing trend of AI integration in finance, reflecting both our sponsor's vision and our personal aspirations for the industry's future. When we embarked on this journey, we faced uncertainty and doubt. Without question, this was the most challenging project we've ever undertaken as a team. It spanned multiple cutting-edge and complex domains, pushing us to our limits and ultimately showcasing our growth and capabilities. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Dell Technologies team (Jacky Lee, Clemence CY Lim) and the SMU School of Computing and Information Systems team (Kiruthika Ramanathan Randall Duran Rafael J. Barros Mahesh Goel), for providing us with the opportunity to showcase our work. And of course a special thanks to my incredible team for their unwavering dedication and the non-stop grinding over the past two and a half years together.

Honoured and grateful to share that I've recently received The Kajima Book Prize in Innovation from SMU Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship. The award recognises graduating SMU students who have demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and visionary leadership during their university journey. It was a privilege to receive the award from Luke Wu from Kajima! Personally, this achievement means a lot as it serves as a reminder of the hard work, growth, and dedication I've committed over the past four years! Looking back, I want to recognise SMU School of Computing and Information Systems and SMU Product Club for being the platforms that provided me with opportunities to innovate and grow as a leader.
