The Dance of Light and Shadow: The Four Seasons of Ruriko-in Temple

Day 1 In the early morning, I departed from downtown Kyoto and took a train to Ruriko-in Temple in Yase. Upon entering the temple, it felt like stepping into a symphony of light and shadow. The fresh green maple leaves of spring reflected on the mirror-like surface of the study room table, creating a dreamy natural painting. Climbing the steps, I strolled through the moss garden and dry landscape garden, where the soft sunlight bathed the moss, imbuing the entire garden with a serene Zen ambiance. At noon, I enjoyed a cup of matcha and wagashi at a nearby teahouse, gazing at the garden scenery through the window and savoring the slow passage of time. In the afternoon, I continued to explore the exhibitions in the study room, learning about the history and Zen culture of Ruriko-in Temple. As the sun set, the garden was bathed in a golden glow, making the day's itinerary poetic and peaceful. Day 2 On the second day, I chose to continue exploring the natural and cultural charms around Ruriko-in Temple. In the morning, I took a cable car from Yase-Hieizanguchi to the top of Mount Hiei, where I admired the magnificent mountain scenery. Then, I made a brief stop at Enryaku-ji Temple on the mountaintop, experiencing the tranquil atmosphere of this thousand-year-old Buddhist sanctuary. In the afternoon, I returned to the area around Ruriko-in Temple and took a leisurely stroll along the Koya River. The clear stream and the maple trees on both banks were mesmerizing. Finally, I returned to the city with a heart full of memories, feeling grateful and reluctant to leave. Ruriko-in Temple is not just a tourist attraction but a gateway to the inner world. The moments of intertwined light and shadow will forever be cherished in my memory.
