2024 Kyoto Prefecture Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
Kyoto was Japan’s ancient capital and remains the country’s cultural heart. Kimono-wearing locals are regularly seen around town. In the central city, visitors are drawn to Kyoto Tower, the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Nishiki-Tenmangu Shrine, and Seimei Shrine. To the northeast in the famous Arashiyama area is Tenryu-ji temple and the glorious bamboo forest. This is a great place to view the cherry blossoms and the fall foliage. Finally, don’t miss Uji to the south, or beautiful Amanohashidate to the north.

Kyoto ryokan accommodation with open-air bath and tatami room

📌Kyoto Ryokan Accommodation Full of Classic Japanese Feel
⠀
📍Momijiya Honkan Takao Sansui Ryokan
📍Umegahata Takaocho, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, 616-8292 Japan
⏰ Check-in 3pm / Check-out 10am
⠀
I chose a tatami room + ryokan accommodation that I've always wanted to stay in for my Kyoto trip this time🙂
⠀
There must be many people who travel to Osaka and Kyoto together. If there were many Koreans in Osaka,
Kyoto was less crowded and there weren't many Koreans, so it seemed better.
⠀
The Momijiya Ryokan I chose includes dinner and breakfast the next day,
and you can use the outdoor hot spring for an additional cost per person!
Be sure to use the outdoor hot spring even if it costs extra! The mountain view that unfolds before your eyes is really the best👍
If you only look at the cost, you may feel that it is a little expensive, but as soon as you check in, welcome tea and snacks are prepared, and dinner and breakfast are included, and even an open-air bath is provided, and after checking out, a sending service to the station is prepared, so
I was very satisfied!
If you are preparing for a trip to Kyoto, please refer to this🧡
⠀
You can read the detailed review of Momijiya Ryokan on the blog😉👩🏻💻

A day in Kyoto: Byōdō-in & Fushimi Inari
We visited Kyoto prefecture for a day trip and we saw several places: Byōdō-in Buddhist Temple in Uji City followed by Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu) at Uji's Taihoan Tea House and Fushimi Inari Shrine. We also went to the Japanese tea production where they made the tea in traditional way as well as the roasting unit which make unique and rich tea flavor. In the evening we enjoyed a traditional Japanese dinner at Kodaiji Hashiba.

Found lots of beautiful boat house photo before booking a bus tour trip to visit Ine no funaya. The rain just stop before we start our boat ride. Would preferred to have spend on more time by staying for a night didn’t have time to explore on land. Hopefully I will have a chance to come back and stay in one of the boat house and get a closer experience as this boat ride focus more on feeding birds than the boat house. Traditional fisherman village, charming & unique with a wonderful scenery. The Japanese wooden boat houses along the bay with lovely local people surrounded by stunning nature. There are bicycle for the visitors to do sightseeing around the village (free of charge). A simple peaceful life, very best retreat or even just a short break from the chaos city life. This place is really good for your soul. If you love the tranquility, simple local life, nature, greenery mountain, sea breeze, or even fresh Japanese seafood, this is highly recommended.

Peaceful Moments at Yasaka Shrine, the Heart of Kyoto
Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto is a place where you can feel the beauty and sanctity of traditional Japan. Located in the Gion district, this shrine allows you to deeply experience Japan's history and culture in a serene atmosphere. Passing through the large and grand 'Torii' gate at the entrance, you are greeted by intricate architecture and tranquil gardens. Especially in summer, it becomes a popular destination with the famous Gion Matsuri, where you can often see people dressed in traditional attire. As you slowly walk through the shrine grounds, you will feel at peace and sense the harmony between Japanese faith and nature. It is a must-visit spot when in Kyoto.
Exploring Kiyomizu-dera: A Confluence of History and Beauty
In the autumn sunlight, I embarked on a journey to Kyoto's famous Kiyomizu-dera. This temple is nestled in the green mountains, surrounded by colorful maple leaves, resembling a painting. Upon entering the temple, the magnificent wooden stage overlooking the spectacular scenery immediately caught my eye, making me feel the passage of time.
The Buddha statues and ancient buildings within the temple exude a sense of historical depth, bringing peace to the soul. Amidst the incense smoke, I participated in a blessing ceremony, making wishes for the future. Kiyomizu-dera is not only a symbol of faith but also a blend of nature and culture, allowing me to deeply appreciate the charm of Japanese culture.
This visit to Kiyomizu-dera was not only a visual delight but also a spiritual cleansing, giving me a deeper understanding and reverence for this land.

The big ginkgo tree of Eiko-ji Temple
I've seen many ginkgo trees, but few are as round and symmetrical as the big ginkgo tree of Eiko-ji Temple.
Recently, Kyoto is getting colder, and it rained a little yesterday. I rushed to Eiko-ji Temple to see the hundred-year-old ginkgo tree, which really warms people up. However, the leaves can probably last for another two or three days, so if you want to go, you have to hurry...
#cherryblossom2024
In the future, I yearn to experience the breathtaking sight of Sakura Japanese cherry blossoms in Kyoto. Imagining the moment fills me with anticipation and wonder. The prospect of witnessing those delicate pink petals against the backdrop of Kyoto's serene beauty ignites a sense of longing within me.

I anticipate the atmosphere of serenity and celebration that surrounds this natural spectacle, as locals and visitors alike gather to appreciate the fleeting beauty of the cherry blossoms. The prospect of immersing myself in this timeless tradition, perhaps even partaking in a hanami picnic, fills me with excitement.
In the future, I aspire to make this pilgrimage to Kyoto during cherry blossom season, to witness firsthand the enchanting spectacle that has captivated hearts for generations. It's a journey I eagerly anticipate, one that promises to be a moment of pure magic and unforgettable beauty.

Let's Go Kyoto!
A day or even two aren't enough for Kyoto!
If there's that one prefecture in Japan added to my "favorite" list, then that would be the former capital -- Kyoto.
One word for Kyoto: Paradox
This word perfectly captures Kyoto's allure. It's a major metropolis yet sublime and quiet, modern yet traditional, frenetic but slow and obscure.
I admit those ideas are logically flawed, but that's just the vibe Kyoto had impressed on me. I think it all boils down to how establishments have a hint of cultural and historical preservation, to which Nihons are proud of. Additionally, the surrounding mountains and the traditional feel of the place help create a calm experience despite it being a metropolis, which is exactly why I am drawn to this part of Japan.
All in all, Kyoto might be the most beautiful place I've seen in my life. A day or two isn't enough, hence, I would've given up every other part of the trip, before giving up my time there.
Kyoto is a must. ❤️

My first New Year's in Japan was in Kyoto! Woke up super early, hopped on a train with locals, and headed to a bamboo forest to watch the sunrise. Clouds hid the sun, but it was still amazing! The tall bamboo stalks were like silent giants around us, and the air felt magical. We bowed our heads together, even without the sunshine, and wished for good luck in the new year. It was quiet and special, not like crazy parties back home. We ended up wandering the streets, smelling yummy food, and hearing temple bells ring. Even though the sun didn't show, it was an unforgettable New Year's! ✨
