Visiting Milford Sound felt like stepping into a magical world straight out of a storybook. Towering cliffs surrounded us, with waterfalls cascading down like shimmering ribbons. The air was crisp, and the sound of waves filled the air. Looking out at the waters and feeling the cool ocean breeze blowing over me, a sense of freedom and liberation wash over me. The vastness of Milford Sound made me marvel at the beauty of God's creation. Walking along the shoreline, I was amazed at the sheer beauty of nature. Milford Sound offers breathtaking views of nature - from mountain ranges to glaciers and a number of waterfalls. You will not run out of great views. 3 days and over 50000 steps was all it took to experience one of the most spectacular views I have seen. Nestled in the south-west corner of New Zealand's South Island is a not-so hidden gem. We have visited Milford Sound before by car (the homer tunnel is an amazing example of engineering and worth a visit as well) but for this trip in 2015 we decided to hike in to the sound. Led by the wonderfull team at Holyford Wilderness Experience this was a trip like no other. We were well taken care of with the meals provided as outstanding as the scenery we took in. The lodges were comfortable and it was nice to have hot running water for showers. This trip started my love of hiking but i must admit it was certainly more luxurious than any other hike I've completed since. #gooutside #naturalwonders

Getting There - You can either choose to follow a tour group or self-drive. Self-drive from Queenstown will be approximate 4-5 hours. Roads to Milford Sound are steep with numerous turns. Can do a stopover at Te Anau to get a quick bite and petrol. The Ranch bar and grill will be a good choice where there are a variety of food choices. Attractions - Amazing views of waterfalls and mountains. Good experience despite the long ride. Do check the timing of the cruise tour as number of tours depends on the season. Beautiful Milford Sound

Drove in and went on the cruise tour. Mesmerising nature scenic views. Lots of waterfalls. Dolphins leading the ferry ship. A hidden gem is the Humboldt Falls. It’s a further drive in past Marian Falls and a short walk in, but the towering waterfall is worth a sight. Been to almost every part of New Zealand and gotta say that Milford Sound is my personal favourite place in New Zealand! Simply magical.

Milford Sound is around 220km away from Queenstown but it took me over 5 and a half hours to get there due to the challenging road conditions and many stretches of their roads have to be travelled on very slow speeds. But still, the journey has been rewarded with beautiful scenery and when you get to Milford Sound, it was worth the long journey. The greatest blessing of them all wasn’t just fulfilling a bucket list of visiting Milford Sound but the greatest blessing was the wonderful, clear, sunny weather when we were there. This is especially so because Milford Sound rains at over 280 days a year.
