Nowadays it is the only newtork-wide operator in Slovakia that offers transport services in the freight traffic mainly in Central Europe. ZSSK CARGO is the largest rail freight company in Slovakia, transport of wagon-load consignments is a core product of our company. Long-lasting practice, necessary experience, resources, capacities and skilled employees guarantee a high level of our services, which can also be proved by almost 1,400,000 consignments carried last year and certification of our logistic trains. When the grey winter weather takes over and the only colorful things around are Christmas lights, it's time to recharge with some summer energy. Summer vibes mean yellow sun, green nature - and undoubtedly also the yellow and green classics on Slovak rails, the Class 125.8 locomotives. As the only broad-gauge electric locomotives in the ZSSK CARGO fleet, they reliably pull the longest and heaviest freight trains in Slovakia. They have been heading with trains loaded with Ukrainian ore to steel plant in the east of Slovakia for more than half a century. However, the skilled teams from the Rolling Stock Maintenance and Repair Services at ZSSK CARGO take good care of them, so that they always look like brand new. From spring to winter, from cement to automotive – the new Class 742.65 locomotives have become a regular sight on ZSSK CARGO trains within the past two years. They have earned their stripes by being reliable, cheaper and more ecological to operate, while providing a better working environment. Sixty and sensational. That’s how old already are our locomotives known as “bardotkas”, these days designated as Class 751 and 752. Over 300 of them were made for Czechoslovakia and the first locomotive left the ČKD production facility in November 1964. You can still find these legends in the ZSSK CARGO fleet – mostly operating in Horná Nitra and Gemer regions, as well as in the surroundings of Prešov city. Borderless across borders! Our Class 131 locomotives often appear on trains heading across Poland or the Czech Republic. In the second case, they head to the cities of Třinec or Ostrava - either with raw materials for the steel industry, or with the Slovakia Shuttle mixed train between Žilina and Halle in Germany. At the border, the trains overcome the third significant climb on the route from the Ukrainian to the Czech border. After Slanské hills and Štrba Pass, it is the Jablunkovský pass, where modernization work is currently underway on the Slovak side. But even after it is completed, it will be necessary to overcome an ascent of up to 16 ‰, which will require twins not only at the head, but often also at the back of freight trains. This year's colorful autumn variety and the variety ZSSK CARGO "twin" locomotives with iron ore trains heading from the Ukrainian border. While the twin-system Class 363 locomotives pull a load of ore near Krpeľany for transshipment in the port of Bratislava, the permanently connected twins of the Class 131 pass under Strečno castle with a load of ore to Ostrava. Although the transport of ore stopped after the shutdown of the furnaces in the Ostrava steelworks, the transports to Třinec and Bratislava from the East Slovak Transshipment Yards still mean significant volumes of transport for ZSSK CARGO.
