Women in Somaliland who worked to supply frankincense to the U.S. essential oils company doTerra have said an investigation the company conducted into abuses by their local employer has placed them in danger, and that missing wages have still not been paid. The 18-month investigation “revealed that the supplier did not meet the high standards we expected of them,” according to a doTERRA statement, and the company has since severed ties with the local supplier, Asli Maydi. But some of the women who say they worked for Asli Maydi and its owner Barkhad Hassan say doTERRA’s actions have not only failed to deliver justice for them, but have placed them in further danger from their former employer.
