#EyeHealth #ChildHealth #Africa #schoolhealth #education 🌍 #EyeHealth screening & treatment over 1 day for 100 Somali children living in poverty 👁️ As we approach #World #Glaucoma #Week it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of eye health and the role that early detection plays in preventing vision loss. I was privileged to set up a collaborative team that undertook an eye health clinic at a school in one of the most underserved areas of Hargeisa. Dr Shiine and his dedicated team from the #Al Ihsaan clinic kindly provided a clinical team of eye specialists to deliver this on-site eye clinic to the community free of charge to the patient. Our thanks to the STIRLING FOUNDATION for sponsoring this work. This initiative not only offered comprehensive eye health assessments but also highlighted the importance of early intervention in preventing preventable blindness & poor vision. Through this free clinic, we were able to: 🟠 #Screen children for common eye conditions including refractive errors and glaucoma. 🟠 Provide #free medical treatment & glasses - ensuring that children received the care they need locally 🟠 Raise #awareness among local families about the importance of good nutrition, hand hygiene to support eye health. In places where access to healthcare is limited, initiatives like this can be life-changing, offering children the: ✅ opportunity to thrive in school ✅ life without the burden of undiagnosed vision problems ✅ foster a culture of preventive care that can last for generations. We hope that these small efforts can contribute towards making a big impact in transforming communities, one child at a time. 📺 Regional TV coverage (MMTV) https://lnkd.in/eU8jwnHa #EyeHealth #WorldGlaucomaWeek #Hargeisa #PreventBlindness #VisionForAll #CommunityCare #HealthcareAccess #EastAfrica #ChildHealth The Stirling Foundation Edna Adan Hospital, Hargeysa WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) UNICEF
