Do you know what these little ones are eating? It’s a micronutrient-rich energy-dense paste called RUTF or ready-to-use therapeutic food. It's a life-saving treatment that helps millions of children threatened by severe wasting – the most dangerous form of malnutrition. It has a shelf life of two years and doesn’t require refrigeration, even after opening. UNICEF works with partners worldwide to ensure every child suffering from malnutrition has access to treatment.

What’s happening in eastern DR Congo? Children and families across much of the region continue to face relentless bombardment and gunfire. In recent months, thousands of vulnerable children in displacement camps have been forced to flee multiple times to escape the fighting. Hundreds of children have been separated from their families, exposing them to heightened risks of abduction, recruitment and use by armed groups, and sexual violence. “Parties to the conflict must immediately cease and prevent grave rights violations against children. They must also take concrete measures to protect civilians and infrastructure critical to their survival – in line with their obligations under international humanitarian law. Humanitarian partners must have safe, unimpeded access to reach all children and families in need – wherever they may be. UNICEF continues to call for increased diplomatic efforts to put an end to the military escalation, and to forge a lasting political solution to the violence, so that the country’s children can live in peace.” - UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. #Anaemia disproportionately affects women, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. In Ethiopia , one in two adolescent girls suffers from micronutrient deficiencies, making them vulnerable to iron and folate deficiency and anaemia. To tackle this, UNICEF, with support from partners, has been working with the Ministry of Health to implement the Weekly Iron-Folate Supplementation programme, reaching just over 500,000 girls in and out of schools nationwide. Read about the impact this programme is having on girls like Asowka: https://lnkd.in/eH7VvkPc #WorldAnaemiaAwarenessDay #ActOnAnaemia
