We are a family of artist and designers by trade. We are hunters and gatherers by the seasons. Adventures when awake and sleeping. We are raising our children and practicing a way of life that embodies a reverence for the rugged common sense toughness our grandparents have while leveraging the understanding of how present day technologies put worlds of knowledge at our fingertips. We travel often to be engaged in different cultures. This is our plan for discovering ways of life to aspire to. From time to time, This study deepens a respect for our region and the cultures closest to us which shape us as a southern family.

The boy asked me last night, “Mommy, I would like to be a continental soldier for Halloween at school tommorow.” My reply, “My big man, let’s see what I can put together!” Looks like all this study of the Founding Fathers is paying off;-)

The children are getting better at making “lean-to” shelters. We picked a south facing slope, on a flat spot, on a hill that overlooks the forest and river below. On this project we help the children construct this “lean-to” a little differently. Instead of covering the shelter with leaves, we compressed the leaves in between all of the leaning sticks… Stuffing the leaves in by the handfuls, like insulation between studs in conventional home construction. In the end it’s an emergency shelter that will keep you warm and dry. It’s made in about half an hour with materials found on the ground all around you. If you’ve never tried to make a “Lean-to” shelter, we recommend it. It’s simple, fun, and almost therapeutic.
We are currently adapting my technology for other industries. Although my design team has the sharpest design understanding in the southeast they lacked a physical knowledge of hydroponics. To remedy that we are now growing hydroponic eggplants and peppers in the studio. I will post the growing development in future posts….
Our first hive inspection confirms our bee hive is happy and productive.
