Add a reminder from another app on Mac
You can remind yourself to return to an item in an app while you’re using the app — without switching to Reminders. For example, you can create a reminder for the webpage you’re viewing in Safari, a selected note in Notes, a location or directions in Maps, or the card you’re viewing in Contacts.
Siri: Say something like: “Remind me about this tomorrow.” Learn how to ask Siri.
Note: All Reminders features described in this guide are available when using upgraded iCloud reminders. Some features aren’t available when using accounts from other providers.
Add a reminder from another app
When you add a reminder from another app, an app icon or link is added to the reminder. You can use that icon or link to get back to the item in the app where you created the reminder, such as a Safari web page, Mail message or Maps location.
While using an app on your Mac, select the item you want to remember, click the Share button , then choose Reminders.
If the app doesn’t have a Share button, Control-click the item you want to remember, then choose Share > Reminders. For example, you can do the following:
Add a reminder for a Mail message: In the Mail app, select a message, Control-click the subject of the message, then choose Share > Reminders.
Add a reminder for a Calendar event: In the Calendar app, double-click an event, Control-click the title of the event, then choose Share > Reminders.
Note: In some apps, the Share menu doesn’t include Reminders, so you can’t use it to create a reminder for the selected item or location.
FaceTime lets you create a reminder when you decline a call. See Answer calls in FaceTime.
Click the Choose List pop-up menu, then choose a reminder list.
Click the Info button , then add or change any of the following details:
Title: Select the reminder list in the sidebar, click its name, then enter a new name.
Notes: Enter notes below the reminder title.
Be reminded on a date and time: Select the On a Day tick box, click the date, then use the calendar to pick a date or type the date in the day, month and year fields. Optionally, select the At a Time tick box, then type a time in the hour and minute fields.
If you want to be reminded on a repeating schedule, place the pointer over the repeat field, click the pop-up menu, then choose an option. To set an end date for the repeating schedule, place the pointer over the end repeat field, click the pop-up menu, choose On Date, then use the calendar to pick a date or type the date in the month, day and year fields.
Be reminded when messaging: Select the When Messaging a Person check box, click Add Contact, then choose a contact from the list.
Change the priority: Place the pointer over the priority field, click the pop-up menu, then choose an option. Exclamation marks appear in the reminder list to indicate priority: one for low, two for medium and three for high.
Add a URL: Click the URL field, then type a web address.
Add images: Click Add Image, choose Photos, select one or more images, then drag the images to the reminder.
Click Add.
Return to the app where you created a reminder
Reminders you create from another app have an app icon or link to help you get back to the item.
In the Reminders app on your Mac, do one of the following:
Use an app icon: If there’s an app icon to the right of the reminder title, click the icon.
Use a link: If there’s a link below the reminder title, double-click the link.
To return a FaceTime call from a reminder you created when you declined an incoming call, click the link in the reminder. See Return recent or missed FaceTime calls.
