AFTEA 2024, Asia's largest agri-food technology exhibition, recently concluded, bringing together a diverse array of innovations, technologies, and solutions shaping the future of food and agriculture. SPACE-F Batch 5, a prominent startup accelerator and incubator program, showcased the ingenuity of 16 participating companies at AFTEA 2024. Several of these startups also competed in the Agri-Food Tech World Championship, a competition designed to identify and support promising food tech ventures. The competing startups demonstrated their innovative ideas, with an impressive 8 out of 10 teams advancing to the final round where they pitched their ventures to investors, securing valuable funding opportunities. We're incredibly proud of Simon Davis, Founder of SEADLING (an alumnus of SPACE-F Batch 4), who won the competition and received a $10,000 prize. Congratulations also to Assoc. Prof. Kitiya Vongkamjan, Founder & CEO of UniFAHS, for achieving 1st runner-up! Both entrepreneurs and their companies are part of the SPACE-F program. In addition to attending the exhibition, we organized several site visits for the participating startups. These included tours of Nestle Singapore, Innovate360 and Kerry Singapore. The startups also participated in product showcases and networking sessions with the Nestle team. Furthermore, they visited Kerry's Regional Technology and Innovation Center, where they had the opportunity to experiment with products and develop various formulas. Mahidol University's Faculty of Science and iNT, partnered with Thai Union, NIA, ThaiBev, Deloitte, LOTTE, and Nestlé, to organize a visit to Kasetsart University's Bangkhen Campus. The group, which included SPACE-F Batch 5 startups, Mahidol University faculty, the Processed Food and Future Food Committee, and private sector R&D teams, toured both the FoodInnopolis pilot plant at the Faculty of Agro-Industry and the Institute of Food Research and Product Development (IFRPD). The goal of the visit was to explore prototype food production and processing technologies available for scaling up food production. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for SPACE-F Batch 5 startups to network with and learn from food technology experts across various organizations. This exchange will help strengthen collaborative networks, aiding product development and business planning for food technology startups in Thailand. Furthermore, the visit fostered the sharing of experience in commercializing research between Mahidol University's Faculty of Science and experts from public and private agencies, paving the way for future collaborations and food technology innovations. The SPACE-F program brought startups from the SPACE-F Batch 5 to visit the largest of Nestlé Thailand’s factories, situated in Navanakorn, Pathum Thani Province. The participating startups had the opportunity to observe the NESCAFÉ RTD Coffee production line and the MILO and BEAR BRAND UHT line, showcasing innovative food production technologies. This visit aimed to inspire startups and provide them with ideas to further develop and scale up their food innovations. SPACE-F Batch 5 held its 4th networking gathering with the goal of connecting our current startups with alumni and partners to exchange ideas and engage in discussions.
