Consultations that have taken place on 25-26 November 2024 in Bangkok served as key preparatory events for the upcoming High-Level 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia-Pacific to be hosted by the Government of India. 🎯 Organized by UNDESA/UNCRD and United Nations ESCAP, these consultations focused on advancing best practices in #3R and #circulareconomy while addressing emerging sustainable consumption and production issues. During ASEAN consultations, member countries reviewed the 📄 draft Declaration, identifying high-priority topics relevant to national and regional contexts. SWITCH-Asia Official also played a role in refining the Declaration’s framework, contextualizing its goals, and fostering partnerships for a stronger and more relevant agreement. Input from other sub-regions, such as the Pacific and LLDCs, further enriched the process. 🔰 The final Declaration, a voluntary, non-binding agreement, will promote “3R and circular economy goals for resource-efficient, clean, resilient, sound material-cycle, and low-carbon societies.” It is set for adoption in March 2025. SWITCH-Asia Official is supporting ACEBA, an ASEAN business-led initiative that promotes responsible and inclusive business practices as a foundation for the circular economy. 📒 ACEBA has documented over 75 practical business cases relevant to the circular economy, including examples from the textile and apparel sectors, primarily in #Indonesia, #Thailand, and the #Philippines. The SWITCH-Asia Official 🔁 Switching On the Green Economy project secured approval for ✅🔰 5 key environmental standards (ISO 14020, 14021, 14024, 14025, and 14029) from Mongolia's Technical Committee on Environmental Standards. These establish a strong foundation for #ecolabeling in Mongolia. Once officially published, SMEs and business owners will be eligible to apply for eco-labels, supporting the national goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 22.7% by 2030.
