Amritsar: The arrest of five members of the Pakistan spy agency-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), including its mastermind Abhijot Singh, has led the Punjab Police to unravel the terror module being operated by Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia, who is based abroad, and Shamsher alias Honey, and their involvement in lobbing hand-grenades at two police setups in Batala and Gurdaspur.
In a release issued here on Sunday, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav claimed to have solved "all incidents of attacks on police establishments in the state".
According to the DGP, the other four arrested accused are Kuljit Singh, Rohit alias Ghessi, Shubham and Gurjinder Singh alias Raja, all residents of Qila Lal Singh in Batala. Police have also recovered one 9mm Glock pistol and one .32 bore pistol from them.
The development comes days after some people hurled a hand grenade at Ghaniae Ke Bangar Police Station in Batala on Dec 12 at around 10.20pm, followed by an attack on the Wadala Bangar Police Post in Gurdaspur on Dec 20 at around 9.30pm. Following these incidents, the BKI had used a social media platform to claim responsibility for these acts, said Yadav.
He further said that Abhijot Singh and Kuljit Singh sustained bullet injuries when they attacked the cops while trying to evade custody and have been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Batala, where there condition is reported to be stable.
Elaborating on the operation, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Satinder Singh said that following the attacks on police establishments, they had launched a special operation to trace the perpetrators. They were tracked and apprehended based on technical and other inputs.
