Udaipur: A 5-year-old girl was killed in an attack by a leopard in Majavad gram panchayat area of Gogunda late Wednesday evening. Her body parts were found on Thursday, two days after two leopards suspected of killing three persons from Gogunda area in Udaipur district were captured.
In the last 10 days, leopards have killed four people in Udaipur’s Gogunda area but it is not certain how many of these animals were behind the human killings.
Given the increasing leopard attacks in the area, forest department’s rescue teams from four districts and an army team conducted a search operation and captured two leopards in two cages on Sept 24. They were later taken to the Biological Park in Udaipur.
In the Bhil settlement of Kudau village under Majavad gram panchayat of Gogunda area, the leopard attacked minor girl Suraj Gameti, who was washing her hands and feet near a drain late Wednesday evening. Villagers learnt about this when other children standing nearby heard her screaming.
While searching, the villagers reached the hilly area near the forest and found the girl’s severed palm. A little further, the girl's mutilated body was found. The body parts were sent to Gogunda CHC for postmortem on Thursday.
