The Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR) was created in 1993, in response to the desire expressed by a number of Arab stakeholders, including local, regional and international institutions as well as governments, to establish a center of academic research and field studies relating to women’s conditions. In addition to collecting data, indicators and statistics on women’s economic, social and political conditions, CAWTAR significantly contributes to capacity building of stakeholders, enhancing networking, building strategic partnership and strengthening advocacy for women’s rights. CAWTAR seeks to contribute to an Arab environment where women and men have equal rights, both in law and in practice and where all manifestations of discrimination, violence and gender differences disappear and where men and women work together for the human welfare of all according to principles of Human rights and gender. CAWTAR’s mission is to contribute to empowering Arab women economically, socially and politically to fully exercise their human rights, through producing knowledge, capacity-building of regional and national institutions and civil society in advocacy for gender equality, advancement of women and strengthening their presence in decision-making positions. Cawtar's objectives: Combat discrimination and violence against women and girls and further strengthen equal participation of women and youth in development and public life, Mainstream gender and human rights approach in natural resource management, Support social actors, especially civil society in advocacy, developing and modernizing legislation, policies and mechanisms and improving the performance of national and local institutions, Strengthen the center’s strategic partnerships and producing and disseminating cumulative knowledge

    🌍💧 Empowering Women to Combat Desertification in the Mediterranean On November 28th, CAWTAR, in partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and PRIMA, hosted an impactful webinar in honor of Mediterranean Day. The event focused on empowering women in the fight against desertification and integrating gender-sensitive approaches within the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus. Key highlights included: Women's leadership in driving sustainable resource management and combating desertification. Sharing innovative solutions and strategies for long-term resilience in the Mediterranean region.     Photos Recap from the final workshop of the project "Making the Invisible Visible" against #ViolenceAgainstWomen, particularly targeting women and girls with hearing and visual disabilities. The workshop was held on November 21, 2024, with the participation of around 100 attendees representing government institutions, NGOs, international and regional bodies, media outlets, and experts working on issues of #Inclusion for people with disabilities and #GenderBasedViolence prevention.

    🌟 An Insightful Workshop on Ending Violence Against Women with Disabilities The workshop titled “Making the Invisible Visible: Combating Violence Against Women with Visual and Hearing Disabilities” is nearing its conclusion today, marking a significant milestone in our collective effort to address the challenges faced by women with disabilities. 💪 Over 80 participants have gathered, engaging in fruitful discussions and collaborative efforts to ensure better integration and support for women with visual and hearing impairments. 🤝 Throughout the day, we’ve witnessed the power of knowledge-sharing and advocacy. The event has provided a platform to discuss key issues, including the gaps in national strategies for ending violence and the importance of inclusive development models. 🌍 Highlights from the workshop include: 🔹 Policy Presentations: Experts introduced essential policy papers, highlighting the need for an inclusive national strategy to combat violence against women with disabilities, and the role of sign language in bridging communication gaps. 📝🗣️ 🔹 Qualitative Study about violence against women with visual and hearing disabilities, titled “Seeing the Invisible.” 📊🔍 🔹 Interactive Discussions: Participants engaged in meaningful conversations around the challenges of accessibility, advocacy, and providing better support systems for women with visual and hearing disabilities. 💬 🔹 Training and Resources: A key takeaway was the presentation of a new training guide to equip professionals with the tools they need to support women with these disabilities in their communities. 📚💡 This workshop has been an important step towards building a more inclusive society where every woman, regardless of her abilities, is valued, protected, and empowered. 💖✨ We’re proud of the strong partnerships being formed, and we look forward to seeing the lasting impact of these efforts.     مشاركة مركز "كوثر" في الاجتماع السنوي للجنة الخبراء حول ختان الإناث 📍 الموقع: نواكشوط، موريتانيا شهدت اليوم العاصمة الموريتانية نواكشوط انطلاق أعمال اليوم الأول من الاجتماع السنوي للجنة الخبراء حول تشويه الأعضاء التناسلية الأنثوية (ختان الإناث) الذي ينظمه الاتحاد الدولي لتنظيم الأسرة - إقليم العالم العربي. 💪 مركز المرأة العربية للتدريب والبحوث "كوثر" يواصل تصديه لهذه الممارسة الضارة المنتشرة في أكثر من 30 دولة حول العالم، بما في ذلك دول عربية. 🌏 بالتعاون مع مكتب الاتحاد الدولي للعالم العربي، ينفذ "كوثر" للسنة الثالثة على التوالي برنامجا مشتركا شاملا لمكافحة هذه الممارسة التي تؤثر على حياة عشرات الآلاف من الفتيات سنويًا. 👥 اللجنة الدولية للخبراء تضم ممثلين من مختلف القارات والدول، ويشارك "كوثر" من خلال اثنين من إطاراته المتخصصين في هذا المجال. 🔑 المسؤوليات الرئيسية للجنة تشمل: ➡️ وضع خطة عمل سنوية ➡️ مراجعة المعايير الطبية ➡️ تحديد الأولويات الصحية والحقوقية ➡️ توحيد الأدلة العلمية ➡️ دعم الأنشطة والدعوة لمكافحة هذه الممارسة 🌐 الهدف: حماية الفتيات ودعم الجهود العالمية للقضاء على تشويه الأعضاء التناسلية للإناث، بالتعاون مع الخبراء والهيئات الدولية. #صحة_المرأة | #ختان_الإناث | #تشويه_الأعضاء_التناسلية | #الاتحاد_الدولي_لتنظيم_الأسرة | #كوثر | #موريتانيا
