🌱 On November 27, 2024, CANARI held the close out meeting for Phase one of Component one of the Biodiversity Conservation and Agroecological Land Restoration in Productive Landscapes of Trinidad and Tobago (BIOREACH Project). 🗺 This phase produced participatory land use maps focusing on the areas between Plum Mitan and Biche and the Nariva Swamp Environmentally Sensitive Area. 👥 The maps were developed by community members, national civil society organisations (CSOs), and state agencies. The information generated will inform the design and implementation of Phase two which will focus on sustainable land use management planning and activities in the aforementioned communities in addition to Tobago. ➡ Phase two is expected to begin in early 2025. 🌍#TBT to an insightful discussion on the road to #COP29! On Oct 30, CANARI’s Resilience Programme Manager, Dr Ainka Granderson, joined UWI SALISES for their webinar on “Navigating the Climate Finance Landscape for Caribbean SIDS.” Dr Granderson explored: 🌿The value of an empowered Caribbean civil society and the role it plays in advancing climate action and accessing climate finance. 🌿CSOs’ crucial role in addressing the climate crisis and advocating for just and equitable outcomes for frontline communities. 🌿Opportunities for CSOs to secure funding were highlighted, that can enable them to increase their impact on the ground. 🌿The work of the Caribbean Climate Justice Alliance and other CSOs and activists to actively influence policy decisions and shape the climate agenda, including at COP29. 🌿How civil society efforts promote inclusion, justice, and resilience in climate solutions for Caribbean communities. 📺🔗Missed it? 🌍 Following the successful implementation of their microgrant projects in Haiti, the first cohort of Yves Renard Fellows is now on the cusp of completing the fellowship programme. For their final assignment, they were asked to develop innovative information and communication technology (ICT) products to share insights from their microgrant projects. 🎯 With their storymaps, the Fellows facilitated knowledge mobilisation and information exchange among Haitian CSOs, local communities, nature-based enterprises in and around Haitian KBAs and stakeholders in Creole-speaking Caribbean islands about sustainable livelihoods for biodiversity conservation.
