  • Opening the doors to Dignity, Care and Justice ✨ Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a critical issue in Tanzania, impacting the health, safety, and dignity of countless individuals, especially women and children. Accessing the necessary support—medical care, legal aid, and protection—often means navigating multiple systems, leaving survivors overwhelmed and underserved.  This week, Tanga took a bold step forward in addressing this challenge with the opening of the One-Stop Center for GBV Survivors at Tanga Regional Referral Hospital. This center brings together essential services—medical care, social welfare, police assistance, and legal aid—under one roof, providing a safe and accessible space for survivors to receive holistic support. 👩⚕️ 👮♀️ 👩⚖️ The center was officially inaugurated by Ms. Pili Mnyema, Tanga Regional Administrative Secretary, on behalf of the Regional Commissioner. Representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Community Development and Gender joined to celebrate this milestone. 👏 The GIZ Health Programme has supported this initiative by equipping the center with medical supplies, IT equipment, and providing multi-disciplinary training for staff. The GIZ Access to Justice for Women and Children Programme provides complementary support by partnering with the Tanzanian Women Lawyers Association TAWLA to ensure survivors have access to comprehensive legal aid services. ⚖️ We thank all stakeholders who have made this day possible. Together, let us ensure that the doors of this center remain open to dignity, care, and justice for all who need it. 🤝 #EndGBV #OneStopCenter #GenderEquality #JusticeForAll #HealthCare #Collaboration #Tanga #GIZ

Throwback to last years National Ecological Organic Agriculture Conference #NEOAC in Tanzania. Our Project Director Hendrik Buermann gave a keynote speech on the future of farming in Tanzania: #People #Nature #Economy The issues we see in the landscape are four losses from #EcosystemDegradation: A loss in #biodiversity, #soil and #water leads to a loss in #productivity and, therefore, #economic activity. This leads to a loss in #employment and #security, and ultimately leads to a loss of #purpose and #hope in communities. But this can be turned around and we can create #4Returns from #LandscapeRestoration. We need to manage to transition from business models that #degrade, #deplete, and #pollute, to business models that #conserve, #restore, and #regenerate. If we can create 🌱 #NaturalReturns from #RegenerativeAgriculture, from restoring #biodiversity, from restoring the #soil, and from creating intact ecological functions and #EcosystemServices, we will create 🌱 #EconomicReturns. For farmers and for companies in the landscape. This will lead to better investment opportunities, small-scale directly on farm land, but also large-scale, as aggregation and processing rely on stable agricultural production. These generate the 🌱 #FinancialReturns. And all of this can lead to 🌱 #InspirationalReturns and #hope. People in the landscape that realize what it means to create win-win situations. For farmers, for their communities, for the local economy. At this #NEOAC Tanzania's National Ecological Organic Agriculture Strategy #NEOAS was officially adopted. A huge step forward to sustainable agriculture that not only works for current generations, but also for the generations to come. #People #Nature #Economy #Watu #Mazingira #Uchumi Commonland's 4 Returns Framework: https://lnkd.in/eedhn9fb TOAM TANZANIA ORGANIC AGRICULTURE MOVEMENT Laudes Foundation GIZ Tanzania and EAC Helvetas Tanzania Litul Baruah Varun Joseph #TogetherWeAreGreener #KijaniHai #EcosystemRestoration #RegenerativeTransition

Students discussed the root causes of GBV, shared experiences, and proposed practical solutions for fostering a safer university environment. The competition fostered critical thinking and advocacy skills among future legal professionals. ⚽ Anti-GBV Bonanza 218 male and 75 female students were engaged in various sports activities such as football, tug of war, chasing a chicken, and running. These vibrant sports and creative activities promoted unity and awareness about GBV prevention in a relaxed, inclusive environment. 🚶♀️➡️Anti-GBV Parade A 5 5-kilometer march aimed at raising awareness of GBV, its prevention, response, and reporting mechanisms at the campus level. The students used banners, music, and speech to share GBV messages across the parade route. 🪇 Arts and panel discussion During the 16DoA, the students prepared an art exhibition, drama, and songs that aimed at raising awareness of GBV. Moreover, a panel discussion about the root causes of GBV and how to create a safe campus on December 10 included important stakeholders such as the coordinator of the legal aid clinic, the coordinator of the gender desk, the dean of the School of Law, and representatives from GIZ. • 📢 Fighting Injustice: How Paralegals can support Women to Secure their Land and Inheritance Rights to Prevent GBV #16DoA2024 🌍 Across Tanzania, women face systemic barriers to owning or inheriting land, often rooted in discriminatory cultural norms and legal practices. When women are denied their rightful property, they become more vulnerable to poverty, exploitation, and gender-based violence (GBV). 🛖 Land is not just an economic asset — it is a source of security and independence. Yet, the denial of land and inheritance rights forces many women to remain in abusive relationships, suffer exploitation, or endure homelessness. These injustices perpetuate cycles of violence and inequality. ⚖️ The GIZ programs Promotion of Rule of Law and Judiciary in Africa (PRoLA) and Access to Justice for Women and Children (SAFE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs (MoCLA), are currently training 55 new paralegals from wards in Chamwino and Lushoto districts from 5-17 December. Paralegals offer free legal aid services to vulnerable citizens and can guide them through legal processes and, when necessary, connect them with advocates who can represent them in Court. The training aims to equip paralegals with essential legal skills, including inheritance and land property rights, as well as legal aspects of GBV. 📆Today, 6 December, the Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Mhe. Prof. Palamagamba J. A. M. Kabudi, visited the training to emphasize the government’s commitment to promoting legal aid and ensuring women’s rights are upheld. 💪 Let’s stand united to end violence, promote justice, and create a fairer future for all. #WomenRights #LandRights #EndGBV #Access2Justice #GenderEquality #LegalAid #Paralegals #16DaysofActivism #PRoLA #SAFE #GIZGender

  • 💪 Empowering Ward Officers to Address GBV: A Step Toward Safer Communities #16DoA2024 From 2-6 December, the SAFE project is supporting the training of 200 ward officers from our pilot regions Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Tanga in community policing, with a special focus on gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, at the Police school in Moshi. 👮♂️ 👮♀️ Ward officers often are the first point of contact for the community and play a vital role in crime prevention. Knowing the community and building trust with its members is particularly important to effectively prevent and respond to cases of GBV or violence against children (VAC). ⚖️ The training was ceremoniously opened by the Inspector General of Police Force, Camillus Wambura, who stressed the importance of community policing in the Tanzanian context. The topics discussed during the training include the ward officer’s role and responsibilities, report writing, investigation skills, problem-solving approaches to policing, the impact of sports, games, culture, and music on the prevention of GBV and VAC and other crimes, and how to act on harmful traditional practices within the community, among others. ✍ 🔎 The pilot training is a first step in equipping the officers with the necessary knowledge and tools to address GBV effectively, support survivors, and engage with communities to prevent violence. 👨👩👧👦 🏘️ Jointly with the Tanzania Police Force, we are taking a vital step toward justice and safety for all. 🤝 #16DaysofActivism #Access2Justice #EndGBVNow #Access4All #GIZGender
