  • 💼 Did you know that public procurement accounts for up to 30% of global GDP? However, corruption undermines the efficiency of this process, resulting in annual losses of about $2 trillion. These funds could be used to develop infrastructure, healthcare, and other important areas of life. Last week in Vienna, the UNODC, in partnership with the United Nations Global Compact, held a series of consultations focused on combating corruption, particularly within public procurement processes. Experts from around the world convened to share their experiences and discuss the challenges faced in establishing more transparent and ethical practices. Daria Ruban, Business Integrity & Human Rights Lead of the UNGC Ukraine, took part in the consultations. Some of the topics discussed: 🔹 Business as a driver of positive change: Companies can actively fight corruption by implementing anti-corruption measures. This not only improves their reputation but also promotes fair competition and enhances the quality of services. 🔹 The role of the state: Governments should incentivize business integrity, for example, by providing rewards or benefits for companies that adhere to high standards of transparency. 🔹 Collaboration is the key to success: An effective fight against corruption is possible only through close cooperation between the state, business, and civil society. 🔹 AI is no longer just a trend: How will artificial intelligence affect anti-corruption efforts, and what should be done about the ethical implications of this issue? 📝 Based on the results of the consultations, UNODC will develop recommendations for governments and businesses aimed at improving the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures in public procurement. #BusinessIntegrity #AntiCorruption #PublicProcurement #UNGlobalCompact #UNGlobalCompactUkraine
