Africa's great apes—gorillas, chimpanzees, and bonobos—face dire threats across their range due to deforestation, climate change, armed conflicts, and exploitation for traditional medicine. Habitat destruction, particularly in countries like Uganda, Cameroon, and the DRC, has fragmented their territories, while practices rooted in cultural traditions continue to harm populations. These challenges are exacerbated by armed conflict and inadequate cross-border conservation collaboration, pushing many ape species closer to extinction. "Without proper conservation measures, we cannot expect to maintain the estimated 6,000 individuals from over a decade ago. The threats they face demand urgent attention." – Liyong Sama Emmanuel, director of Centre for Indigenous Resource Management and Development (CIRMAD) Here is the full multimedia story: ➡️🔗https://lnkd.in/daH4USz9 #ApesStories #Gorillas #ConservationStories #Conservation #Apes #SaveApes #HabitatLoss #EndIllegalPoaching #Wildlife

October is that you? Happy New Month 🦍 Did you know, gorillas’ senses resemble those of humans. They use all senses in their communication with conspecifics - not only hearing and seeing, but also touching and smelling. Silverback males have a characteristic smell. In a dangerous situation, they additionally emit a very specific scent which can be smelled at many metres and which alarms the group without any noise @berggorillas #Repost @ask_me_about_gorilla_trekking_ #ApesStories #ConservationStories #apesreportingproject #greatapes #knowyourapes #Silverback #Gorilla #MountainGorilla

Bonobos, one of our closest relatives, live in the dense rainforests of the Congo Basin. They are unique among great apes for their matriarchal societies, peaceful conflict resolution, and strong social bonds. Despite their fascinating behaviors and close genetic ties to humans, bonobos are endangered due to habitat destruction, poaching, and the illegal wildlife trade. Their survival depends on global conservation efforts. Let’s raise awareness and take action to protect these remarkable creatures and their disappearing habitats! #SaveBonobos #Conservation #ApesStories 🎥 Fauna Foundation

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." – Robert Swan. This rings especially true for our great apes. As they face growing threats from habitat loss, poaching, and climate change, it’s up to each of us to take action. Together, we can protect these remarkable creatures and their homes before it’s too late. #ApesStories #ConservationMatters #SaveTheApes
