On this #WorldFoodDay 🥙,let's highlight the urgent need to ensure food security in refugee communities and work to transform our #foodsystems to be affordable and accessible for everyone. As we deal with challenges like climate change, loss of biodiversity, and food shortages, it's important to focus on regenerative agricultural practices. This includes integrating mushroom 🍄cultivation, which helps restore and protect our planet. #worldfoodday #Healthfoodmatters #Organicfood #Endhunger

We were honored to host a joint reception with the High Commissioner of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency during the United Nations General Assembly at our New York office. Together with senior executives from around 30 companies, our Worldwide Managing Partner, Christophe De Vusser, and the Deputy High Commissioner, Kelly T. Clements, discussed the private sector's potential contributions to the refugee crisis. It was an inspiring and collaborative evening, resulting in innovative approaches, how businesses can play a crucial role in addressing global challenges like the refugee crisis. Bain has proudly supported UNHCR since 2016, and we look forward to continuing our partnership and making a meaningful impact on the lives of forcefully displaced people around the world.

🌱 Empowering Refugees Through Sustainable Livelihoods 🌍 Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting at the KISEDP PSEL 8 WG meeting in Turkana West on the topic of "Edible Mushroom Production in Kakuma Refugee Camp." 🎤 Our initiative at Farming and Health Education (FHE) aims to explore the potential of oyster mushrooms as a sustainable source of food, nutrition, and income for the refugee community. Through our collaboration with partners like LPSD and Nourish All, we have established two mushroom production units, trained 54 beneficiaries, and created a model that can produce up to 11kg of mushrooms per week per unit! 🍄 The impact is tangible—enhancing food security, boosting nutrition, and providing economic opportunities. Moving forward, we're excited to expand this initiative to reach even more households and establish a local laboratory for spawn production. I invite you to take a closer look at our work by viewing the attached presentation link here https://lnkd.in/dXbcFFFc. A big thank you to KISEDP PSEL WG and all our partners for your continued support. Together, we are making strides toward a world free of poverty, where essential resources are accessible to all. 🌍💪 #Permafunds2024 #SustainableLivelihoods #FoodSecurity #RefugeeEmpowerment #MushroomFarming #KISEDP #FarmingAndHealthEducation

I’m excited to share that we have officially embarked on the second phase of our mushroom production project with the Wives of the King group, proudly sponsored by Nourish All . Last week, we successfully inoculated 20 buckets of mushroom substrate, which are now in the incubation stage. This project is designed not only to generate income but also to improve nutrition and strengthen food security for these vulnerable women, empowering them towards economic independence. As the Project Coordinator for the Nourish All Western Kenya team, I am honored to be part of this initiative, which combines innovation with community empowerment. This project is a game-changer for local livelihoods, and we are gearing up for mass production by 2025. By scaling up, we aim to reach even more households, ensuring sustainable growth and widespread impact. I want to extend my deepest appreciation to every participant for your dedication and active engagement during the training sessions. Your enthusiasm was the driving force behind our success! A special thank you to our CEO Samantha Koches for providing all the resources and support necessary for this initiative to flourish. Your generosity and leadership were pivotal in making this day such a success. I am excited about the positive impact this project will bring to the community, and I look forward to continued collaboration with each of you as we work towards a brighter, more sustainable future! Together, we are building stronger communities, one mushroom at a time. 🍄💪

  • Nourish All is dedicated to empowering vulnerable families and communities. One such community is a group of widows "Wives of Kings" in western Kenya. Led by Nourish All's regional team, we have established oyster mushroom cultivation as a means of food security, nutrition, and income opportunities for these vulnerable women. In 2023, Nourish All piloted low-tech mushroom growing using locally available resources such as banana leaves and wood ash. Nourish All's founder joined the team in person in June for several days of training, harvesting, and cooking demonstration with the Wives of Kings. We completed another round of cultivation in September and hope to expand in 2025. Your support would allow us to scale up and deepen impact for these widows who have little support otherwise.
