Today we concluded the Rootical 2025 Team Retreat, in an amazing venue here in Jinja, at the source of the Nile. 🔥 Bonfire & deep reflections 🌱 Nature walk to regenerate 🧭 Strategic & Team planning 🔎 Selecting the 2025 cohort 🥂 Cosy dinners & delicious food ⚙️ Fine-tuning the studio playbook 💪🏾 Diving deep into our talent work This team talks about the "Rootical Way" of doing. They love how we do things differently: bootstrapping, embracing failure, horizontal team work, transparency & accountability, getting things done. This really makes me proud. And I believe the Founders-in-Residence, our partners and the people we engage with really feel it. We have a busy year ahead, and we're totally ready for it! In the words of Ruth Ndwiga, talent manager at Rootical: 📌 The retreat has been a perfect blend of work and play. We took time to enjoy life and each other’s company. 🥦 From learning new Belgian recipes (and washing dishes afterwards) to assigning ourselves fun titles like Lead Dishwasher, Chief of Leisure, Master Chef, and Focus Angel, it wasn’t about hierarchy or roles — it was about ensuring everyone had what they needed to thrive and give their best. 🌞 We walked up Kali Hill, where the breathtaking view of Jinja stretched before us, with the Nile fading beautifully into the horizon. The view from the hill and the gentle whispers of the Nile’s breeze were a reminder that we’re on the right path. Being in nature has a way of centering and rejuvenating the spirit. 🌟 This retreat wasn’t just about strategy. It has been about building a deeper sense of purpose. Talent lies at the heart of what we do at Rootical. Our work is only as strong as the people who carry it forward. It’s about making sure everyone feels valued, inspired, and equipped to thrive. Reflecting back on the year 2024, we are taken into total awe at how remarkable and transformative it was for Rootical. Some of our defining moments were our legal incorporation as the first #StewardOwned startup studio in Africa, a milestone that formalized our commitment to #RegenerativeAgriculture and #PurposeDrivenEntrepreneurship. Shortly after, we celebrated the incorporation of several #impactful #businesses in our studio, each bringing innovative solutions to transforming our #FoodSystem. The energy of the year was amplified during the Founders Gathering, where ideas blossomed, connections deepened, and our shared vision came to life. To equip our teams for success, we held financial management training sessions, ensuring that every venture under our wing was prepared to navigate its finances with resilience and clarity. This year wasn’t just about milestones—it was about strengthening the bonds that define Rootical. From team-building activities that fostered collaboration to attending global conferences that broadened our perspectives, 2024 was a year of growth and discovery.  As the year drew to a close, we launched our call for the 2025 cohort, extending an invitation to the next wave of trailblazers eager to join our mission. The excitement was contagious as we envisioned the impact these new ventures would bring. Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be even more dynamic. We’re gearing up for an immersive bootcamp that will lay the groundwork for systematic venture building, testing, and iteration for cohort 2. The year will also see us welcome new businesses into the Rootical studio, expanding our ecosystem of changemakers. With every step, we’re reaffirming our commitment to creating a future grounded in #agroecology and purpose driven entrepreneurship. Rootical’s story is still unfolding, and the best chapters are yet to be written. Stay tuned.

Animal diseases pose a significant risk to global food security, endangering livestock, livelihoods, and ecosystems. Outbreaks like foot-and-mouth disease can devastate animal populations, disrupt food supply chains, and drive up food prices, impacting the most vulnerable communities.
