Happy Thanksgiving! This holiday season we are reaching out to request your support for vital community and conservation projects in Uganda and Rwanda. Our partnership with Empowers Africa as our fiscal sponsor provides a simple way for contributions from US residents to be tax-deductible. We are seeking to raise funds for the following projects; Give $500 to support a trainee wildlife guide at Kibale Lodge with binoculars and guidebooks. For $2,500 you can sponsor three young trainees for a three-month hospitality program at Bwindi Bar. Contribute $5,000 the new Virunga Lodge Community Centre and be recognised as a benefactor. $10,000 will support the Kyambura Lion Monitoring Team during their annual carnivore census for three months in Queen Elizabeth National Park. A donation of $18,000 per year will support the Gahinga Batwa children’s school fees, including a hot meal, adult schooling, a food donation and weekly visits by doctors and health workers. We need your support for these vital community projects around our lodges and to support conservation of gorillas and chimpanzees. Please give generously! Follow the link below to donate. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/dCCz5exF

Dr Jane Goodall, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), addressed the UNESCO World Headquarters in a captivating speech focused on conservation and the role of every individual in preserving our planet. Her speech also discussed the importance of empowering local communities and educating the youth through the JGI Roots and Shoots Program. Volcanoes Safaris work in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute for chimpanzee conservation at Kibale and Kyambura Gorge Lodges. The Kyambura Lion Monitoring Project is honoured to receive support and funding from the @lionrecoveryfund for the 2024 lion census in Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area (QECA). Thanks to their generous support, the team have made great progress since the start of the census in August, driving over 8,000km so far. The census is conducted by the dedicated team, led by field coordinators Bosco and Orin, driving through the park at least 6 days per week, using the Bayesian spatial capture-recapture sampling method, and recording the exact tracks driven and locations of lion sightings with GPS. Each lion’s identification is determined by photographs taken of their whisker spot patterns on both sides of their face. Read more about the partnership here: https://lnkd.in/dDpmyN4c
