About us

The 10,000 Interns Foundation is dedicated to championing underrepresented talent across UK industries, with a focus on creating equitable opportunities for Black students and graduates. Originally founded in 2020 as the 100 Black Interns initiative by Jonathan Sorrell, Michael Barrington-Hibbert, Dawid Konotey-Ahulu, and Wol Kolade, our mission is to address the underrepresentation of Black talent in the workplace and help individuals succeed in their careers. Through our paid internship programme, we aim to increase access to meaningful opportunities, while also driving change in recruitment practices to ensure they are more inclusive and equitable. We support Black talent by providing training, mentoring, and a powerful network of industry leaders, alongside using data-driven insights to create impactful interventions informed by the lived experience of Black professionals. In just four years, we have partnered with over 700 leading UK organisations, delivering 7,000 paid internship opportunities and empowering 65,000 students and graduates. Our vision is a workplace that truly reflects the diversity of talent in society, with a future where Black talent is no longer underrepresented but is at the forefront of British business. The 10,000 Interns Foundation is more than just a programme—it's a movement that is unlocking the potential of diverse talent to transform industries and drive lasting change.

I’m thrilled to share my very first LinkedIn post—a little daunting at first, but what better way to start than with some exciting news. I’m delighted to announce that I’ve secured a summer internship on the in-house legal team at The Law Society This is an incredible opportunity, and I’m looking forward to gaining hands-on experience, learning from industry professionals, and developing my legal skills in a real-world setting. This feels like a massive step for me because, if I’m being honest, this time last year, I didn’t fully understand what an internship was—let alone how important they are. I’ve come a long way in that time, learning how to navigate applications, build my experience, and put myself forward for opportunities like this. It’s been a journey, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned along the way. A huge thank you to my mentors, Sophie Winter and Sophie Tredget for their invaluable support and guidance throughout this journey—I truly appreciate it. I’d also like to thank The 10,000 Interns Foundation for helping to create opportunities like this and for the work they do in opening doors for aspiring professionals. Excited for what’s ahead and grateful for this opportunity!

  • Internships are a transformative opportunity to learn, take bold risks, and lay the groundwork for your future. The right experience, at the right moment, has the power to shape a young person's entire career, opening doors never thought possible.

I am excited to share that I have accepted a 6 week summer internship offer with Simmons & Simmons! I am grateful for this opportunity and I am eager to gain more invaluable insights in different legal sectors, as well as to take on new challenges during this internship. I would also like to express my gratitude to the The 10,000 Interns Foundation for providing such a valuable platform and for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the entire application process. Their resources and mentorship have been helpful and I am incredibly grateful for their assistance.

“Stand before the people you fear and speak your mind – even if your voice shakes… …Well-aimed slingshots can topple giants. And do your homework…” So here’s the homework: The same systems that oppress me, oppress you too, Right now, everyone has less, apart from the people who are trying to divide us… The digital platforms that were meant to connect us, to bring us together, are driving us further and further apart. And a small handful of people are benefiting from that by amassing untold wealth and power. Diversity, literally means everyone, it means variety. So asking you to take the boot off my neck is not radical - that same boot is also kicking you. The new US administration will have the greatest impact on our mission at The 10,000 Interns Foundation since the death of George Floyd. We exist to challenge underrepresentation, to ensure equal opportunity and experience for young Black talent. And in the future we are building, we want every single person to be able to see themselves as an intern. To believe they can have a seat at the table. Not because they are Black. Or for that matter Disabled, or gay, a woman, white working class (because by increasing access and advocating for increased opportunity for one minoritised group we are opening the door for everyone) But because we are talented. To my mind, there’s only one thing in the world that is equally distributed and that is talent. And talent is not about hoarding wealth, you don’t prove talent by amassing billions while hard-working people die by preventable means. Everyone has something to offer - and everyone deserves the opportunity to prove that. It is time to decide who you will be in this moment of turmoil. And that means it is time for clear statements: I’m not scared of Trump, I’m scared of everyone else’s silence. Don’t turn away, don’t cut our funding, don’t roll back your commitments to our collective future. Stand before the people you fear and speak your mind – even if your voice shakes.

Head of Communications & Marketing at The 10,000 Interns Foundation currently asking the question, 'What is the Black (British) experience?'

I know, I know - the 2025 Grammys have been and gone. But Alicia Keys’ speech that night? That wasn’t just a moment, it was a message. “DEI is not a threat. It’s a gift.” She said it with conviction, because it’s true. Yet, somehow, we’re still debating whether diversity, equity, and inclusion should exist - as if fairness is optional, as if representation is a passing trend. The way some people talk, you’d think DEI was some radical new concept tipping the scales. It’s not. It’s been shaping workplaces since the Civil Rights Movement, before it had a catchy acronym. DEI was never about giving one group a shortcut. It’s about making sure nobody gets shut out. It’s not charity. It’s not a threat. It’s a correction to decades (actually, centuries) of exclusion. And the data backs it up. Diverse teams drive innovation. Inclusive businesses perform better. But when the playing field starts levelling, suddenly, some people cry foul. Here’s the truth: if you’ve never needed DEI, you have the privilege of ignoring it. But for many of us, it’s not a “nice to have.” It’s the difference between being seen or invisible, mentored or ignored, promoted or passed over. People love to act like the DEI conversation is overplayed. It’s not. Marginalised people don’t get the luxury of “moving on.” What Alicia Keys said wasn’t new, but it was necessary. DEI isn’t a handout - it’s an opportunity. Not just for Black professionals, or women, or Disabled employees, but for every business, industry, and economy that thrives when more voices are included. So if you’re tired of hearing about DEI? Imagine how exhausting it is to still be fighting for it.
