‼️UK Government will bring forward measures to tackle AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Earlier this week, Baroness Jones of Whitchurch announced the Government will address the concerns raised by Baroness Kidron's amendment 203. The amendment to the Data Bill would criminalise the mechanisms used to generate CSAM - addressing a deeply concerning loophole regarding the creation of AI-generated CSAM. We await to hear how the Home Office will deliver this change but welcome the recognition of the amendment's importance. #AI #OnlineSafety #GenAI

🚨The UK's Illegal Harms Code of Practice falls short of the ambitions of the Online Safety Act.   Ofcom's approach to the Code will fail to ensure services are made safe by design, puts commercial interests above the concern for harm reduction, and will create a 'race to the bottom' for compliance with the regime. On Monday, I had the pleasure to be at the launch of the Nordic Child Tech Policy Alliance (NOCTA) in Stockholm 🇸🇪 At the initiative of Barnevakten, Børns Vilkår, Bris, Digitalt Ansvar, Prinsparets Stiftelse and UNICEF Sweden, a multi-stakeholder discussion took place on how to best develop digital environments that protect and support children's rights. In the presence of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, Executive Vice President Henna Virkkunen, Danish minister for digitalization Caroline Stage Olsen, Swedish minister for Public Administration Erik Slottner, state secretaries Minna Ljunggren from Sweden and Eli Blakstad from Norway, Ombudsman for Children in Sweden Juno Blom, the secretary general of the Nordic Council of Ministers Karen Ellemann and digital services providers representatives, we discussed child rights by design and emerging technologies. 📌 The two topics are intrinsically linked as any emerging technology should follow a child rights by design approach, and therefore ensure the respect of children's rights, including their safety and their privacy. 💡 Check out the Child Rights by design toolkit: https://shorturl.at/XzYjC 📌 Standards are crucial in this regard as they provide the tools and processes for companies and developers to innovate with and for children, hence providing age-appropriate experiences in online environments. 💡 Check out the CEN-CENELEC CWA 1806: https://shorturl.at/AGRkw Many thanks to Essi Alho, Johanna Lindström and Sørine Vesth for the kind welcome and invitation!
