We recently ran a poll to uncover which parts of the hiring journey candidates find most frustrating. The results are in, and they’re a useful reminder for anyone involved in managing a recruitment process: 🖋️ Long Job Applications: 35% 💬 Lack of Feedback: 34% ⏰ Long Interview Processes: 27% 🤨 Vague Job Adverts: 4% It’s no surprise that long applications top the list, closely followed by the lack of feedback. Candidates are dedicating their time and effort to the process, oftentimes, particularly with senior finance and accounting candidates, they're time poor so making the process as efficient as possible could help you attract and retain more candidates. What can employers do to address these frustrations? 1️⃣ Streamline Applications: Reduce complexity and unnecessary steps in the application process. Ensure you have a team ready to review the CVs that are submitted and that they know the criteria for progressing someone to the next stage. 2️⃣ Provide Feedback: Hiring managers are often juggling the process alongside the day job, and it can show. Ensure you know what feedback you'll be expected to give and build it into the process so you can provide timely feedback to both successful and unsuccessful candidates. 3️⃣ Be Transparent About Timelines: Candidates appreciate knowing how long the process will take. Set clear expectations early. 4️⃣ Write Clear Job Descriptions: Take the time to craft detailed and accurate job adverts. Candidates are more likely to apply when they know exactly what’s required.
