As part of our brand new partnership with National Art School (Australia), we’re pleased to announce multidisciplinary artist Anna Mould as the inaugural winner of the Prudence MacLeod Prize, supported by the Lansdowne Foundation. The award offers a recent NAS graduate a six-month residency at our Fire Station building, providing space and support to expand their practice, build international networks, and create a new body of work.   Huge congratulations to Anna and we look forward to welcoming her to London. You can learn more about this new opportunity for emerging Australian artists below. >>> https://lnkd.in/eAsCeM8J Anna Mould, ‘The Damned, Tambaroora NSW’, 2023, machine embroidery and acrylic on canvas, 50 x 50 cm.

We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland for another year.   Hosted by Acme as part of our ongoing international residency programmes, this year’s three-month Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland/Acme artist residency is intended for a Finnish or Finland-based artist whose practice would benefit from time in London to explore and research new ideas, and who feels that they face additional barriers in pursuing their artistic practice.     In previous years, we welcomed artists Nayab Noor Ikram and Niko Hallikainen, who received an artist fee of €4,800 (€1,600 per month) and support from Acme and the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland’s teams to develop their creative and professional networks in London.    Open call: https://lnkd.in/eCu4BbBF 📸 Melanie Clifford's work/live studio at Fire Station. © Acme, 2011.

    • A pink and blue visual for the 2025 Finnish Institute UK and Ireland/Acme London Residency open call. Blue text reads: "We are pleased to open applications for a three-month artist residency at an Acme studio in London, to take place from 2 June to 29 August 2025. The opportunity is intended for a Finnish or Finland-based artist whose practice would benefit from time in London to explore and research new ideas, and who feels that they face additional barriers in pursuing their artistic practice. Expressions of interest due: 24 February 2025. Further information: acme.org.uk." There is a photo of an artist's work/live studio and both Acme and the Finnish Institute UK and Ireland's logos.
  • A huge thank you to #AcmePropellerFactory artist tenant Nick Malone for championing our campaign to save the building.   Acme Propeller Factory is the largest remaining long-term studio building of its kind in London, and the UK's biggest building dedicated solely to artist studios at genuinely affordable rent. With the lease set to end, we are working to raise the funds by December 2025 to keep this space for future generations of artists.    Nick has been a tenant in the building for 25 years and will be generously donating 50% of all sales from his exhibition of new work at The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce) towards saving this vital space for artists.   If you’d like to attend and learn more about Nick’s work and the campaign, please RSVP via the link below. Please note that RSVP is essential. >>> https://lnkd.in/eP3vUWzt #LondonNeedsArtists

Please get involved and help us keep artists in the building — find out more below! 🏭 https://bit.ly/AcmeAPF #LondonNeedsArtists

CVAN , a-n The Artists Information Company and DACS working in partnership for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Visual Arts and Artists This Autumn, the APPG for Visual Arts and Artists was reconvened with MPs and peers from all parties committing to providing a forum for parliamentarians to foster a deeper understanding of the issues and challenges faced by UK visual artists and the visual arts. The group was established in 2021 with a secretariat from a-n, CVAN, and DACS to help ensure that the visual arts ecosystem fuels creativity, diversity, and economic growth, supporting both individuals and institutions to ensure the sector can remain world-leading. In this blog, Julie Lomax, CEO of a-n, The Artists Information Company, Paula Orrell, National Director Contemporary Visual Arts Network England and Christian Zimmermann, CEO of DACS explain why the three organisations are working together to ensure artists and the visual arts remain at the forefront of discussions in Westminster. https://lnkd.in/dHqsvy9t

Artist Janet Tod has been with DACS since 1984, helping to establish it alongside artists and lawyers to champion artists’ rights. A practising artist throughout, she’s seen London’s art scene evolve over the decades. Now based at the Acme Propeller Factory, Janet is supporting the campaign to save this important artist space. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, Janet reflects on the changes she’s witnessed, the challenges facing artists today, and the importance of protecting creative spaces.
