A lovely start to the weekend, surrounded by kind-full folk at the launch of the new ‘INI Food and Wellbeing Centre’ in Downham (SE London) today! Sis Stella is the inspiring CEO of Rastafari Movement UK Wellbeing (RMUKW) and will be leading this fantastic hub and social supermarket, supported by community volunteers. I’ve been fortunate to have worked with RMUKW and Sis Stella (one of my most favourite people) since 2023 (thanks to Impact on Urban Health), so I know that the centre will embody the care, love, and deep generosity that defines their work. Here’s a link to more information about the new INI Centre, which is a collaboration between RMUKW and Action Against Hunger UK. https://lnkd.in/eGfnY5Cv And yes, that’s Levi Roots joyfully cutting the ribbon, standing alongside Sis Stella and partners.

If there’s one person who thrives on solving complex challenges, it’s Emma. Whether she’s securing lifesaving funding, helping colleagues across the globe, or delivering solutions with her signature calm and organisation, Emma’s the one you want in your corner. Her hard work in contract management has brought some great results: 🤝 She's supported vital medicine deliveries to Afghanistan, ensuring delays at country borders don't affect the project outcomes 🐓 900 households in Pakistan received cash and 12 chickens each – which means better diets, stable livelihoods, and a brighter future 🌱She’s helped communities in the Philippines access emergency aid during an oil spill that prevented fishermen from working. Emma also has a skill for building strong, supportive relationships with country offices. “She understands our challenges and is always as supportive as possible,” said Océane Vancolen, Country Director for Sudan ACF. She also transformed project management on Project Vruddhi, earning praise as the best project manager ever. 😎 And she generally makes her colleagues’ lives better with her organisation, assertiveness, and effective communication. Emma, you’re a powerhouse! Your care, expertise, and dedication are truly inspiring and we couldn’t be more proud to have you on board. Thank you for everything you do 💛 #RisingStars #programmefunding #employeespotlight

If you've emailed me this week and haven't received a response, here's why! Sometimes, it's easy to get caught up in the routine of emails and teams calls, potentially losing touch with the experiences of individuals and communities, or overlooking the sheer strength of the relationships being created by VCS organisations. On Monday, we held the first Healthy Pantry session in the UK in collaboration with Hugh Lort-Phillips and Action Against Hunger UK. This evolving program aims to empower staff and volunteers leading community-based affordable food initiatives with essential information, advice, and practical guidance on supporting individuals in making healthy food choices in a non-judgmental and informed manner. A special thanks to Elizabeth Alake-Akinyemi and the team at the Colchester Community Supermarket for their passion and engagement which was so invaluable in shaping the future of this program for Essex and the UK. It was fab to have colleagues Emily Fallon MSc ANutr and Kate Cressall MSc ANutr onboard, bringing their expertise in Public Health, Healthy Weight, and Nutrition to the project. Yesterday, I had the privilege of spending the day with Neave Beard and the team at Rainbow Services in Harlow during one of their regular sharing sessions. I'd urge anyone interested in witnessing the positive impact of strength-based community work firsthand, to reach out to Sharon Summerfield and Kate Greer for details on future sessions. Learning more about the Our Health Matters program and experiencing the Community Builder initiative firsthand reinforced the significance of focusing on the bigger picture, striving for the changes we aspire to see, and dedicating less time to sweating the small stuff. We wrapped up the day with forty minutes of Signing for Breathing which was brilliant and uplifting. Some days just don't feel like work at all! 👏 #Actionagainsthungeruk #divineassemblyministries #affordablefood #communitysupermarket #healthypantry #rainbowservices #harlow #singingfor

It’s not rocket science: without proper nutrition, our bodies can’t fully function. Here’s what happens when we don’t receive the nutrients we need: 🧠 Our brains slow down 🚑 Our immune system is weaker ⚡ Low energy levels make it difficult to work or learn. But for over 800 million people around the world facing barriers like poverty, conflict, and climate change – proper nutrition is not an option. We know that access to nutrition is a human right. That’s why we work every day to provide lifesaving food assistance, build sustainable food systems, and advocate for long-term change. Urge the UK government to take bold action on global malnutrition: https://lnkd.in/dXhCWAAz #NutritionForAll #N4G

Despite the ceasefire, Gazans face severe hunger, malnutrition, and homelessness. Families need cash to buy food and immediate access to clean drinking water. 92% of homes are destroyed. 70% of water facilities are damaged. "People fear that the ceasefire will only last 42 days”, says one of our staff in Gaza. “But what they want is security, access to food, water, health care... and to be able to move freely and safely.” #gaza #ceasefire #palestine
