We help to accelerate the transition to a net-zero automotive industry through funding, support and insights.
About us
The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) collaborates with UK government, the automotive industry and academia to accelerate the industrialisation of technologies, supporting the transition to deliver net-zero emission vehicles. Since its foundation in 2013, APC has funded 170 low-carbon projects involving 402 partners, working with companies of all sizes, and has helped to create or safeguard nearly 50,000 jobs in the UK. The technologies developed in these projects are projected to save over 288 million tonnes of CO2, the equivalent of removing the lifetime emissions from 12 million cars. With its deep sector expertise and cutting-edge knowledge of new propulsion technologies, APC’s role in building and advising project consortia helps projects start more quickly and deliver increased value. In the longer term, its work to drive innovation and encourage collaboration is building the foundations for a successful and sustainable UK automotive industry. In 2019 the UK government committed the Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF) to accelerate the development of a net-zero vehicle supply chain, enabling UK-based manufacturers to serve global markets. ATF investments are awarded through the APC to support strategically important UK capital and R&D investments that will enable companies involved in batteries, motors and drives, power electronics, fuel cells, recycling, and associated supply chains to anchor their future.

🔋 Could LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery chemistries accelerate the mass adoption of EV vehicles? Our latest report, produced by our in-house team of experts, is now free to download from our website https://okt.to/GSBAW1 💡Key takeaways from the insight report are the changes and steps needed to build a resilient supply chain for low-cost battery manufacturing in the UK/Europe. Currently, the regional supply chain lacks lithium and manganese capabilities, essential materials for LF(M)P manufacturing. 🚗 Without regional capabilities, European OEMs will find it hard to compete with Chinese car makers who have already embraced LFP chemistries, having recognised the cost and range advantages this solution brings. 🔎 Discover value-chain opportunities, consider the possible focus for future investment and understand the impact new legislation could have, particularly the EU-UK Rules of Origin (ROO). 💻 If you would like more information email us now, info@apcuk.co.uk, or visit the knowledge base section of our website for more interesting industry insights and trend reports https://okt.to/IzwJ3E Hadi Moztarzadeh Aditya Thirunavukkarasu Stephanie Morton CEng MIMechE #automotive #BatteryMaterials #innovation #trends #technology

As we celebrate Hydrogen Week UK this week, take a look back at the close out of the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK NextGenFCEV project, which saw the launch of our brand new Wrightbus Gen 2.0 Hydrogen Fuel Cell double deck bus. We welcomed visitors and partners from across the UK to our Ballymena Headquarters, and here they reflect on the project, the partnership and the new #Streetdeck #Hydroliner from Wrightbus Part-funded by the UK government through the #AdvancedPropulsionCentre, the four-year project has seen engineering experts from Wrightbus completely redesign the original Hydroliner vehicle from the ground up. A consortium of partners including Grayson Thermal Systems, Queen's University Belfast, Hygen Energy and Translink banded together with the aim of strengthening UK based manufacturing capabilities to produce this zero-emission technology at scale. 🎥 In Part 1 of our Partner Reflections we hear from Matt Shillito CEng (Senior Project Delivery Lead at Advanced Propulsion Centre UK), Dr Lee Roberts representing Hygen Energy(Policy, Sustainability and Funding Manager Ryze Power), and Alan Boyd (Electrical Engineering Manager, Wrightbus) #Wrightbus #DrivingAGreenerFuture #APC #HydrogenBus #HydrogenTransport #HydrogenWeekUK25

🌟 What a fabulous two days we had meeting friends, old and new, in Northern Ireland. Many thanks to our partners Wrightbus and Ionic Technologies for your superb hospitality, helping us showcase to our guests the importance of the Northern Irish supply chain to the UK's zero-emission and clean-mobility agenda. Thanks also to Titanic Quarter and Belfast Harbour for helping us shape and deliver our event. 🚌 We started the day with an amazing project close-out event at the Wrightbus facility in Ballymena, which celebrated the launch of the Streetdeck Hydroliner Gen 2.0, the culmination of a four-year APC-supported project. Led by Wrighbus, a consortium of partners including Grayson Thermal Systems, Queens University Belfast, Hygen Energy, and Translink, proudly unveiled a hydrogen double-deck bus that is more fuel efficient, has a greater range, costs less and can carry more passengers than its predecessor, the world’s first-ever hydrogen double-deck bus, launched in 2020. 🧲 We then travelled to Ionic Technologies to visit their pilot plant. Part-funded by the Department for Business and Trade and facilitated through the APC, the plant was built to commercially validate Ionic's innovative magnet recycling process, which uses advanced rare-earth separation and refining technologies to generate a viable domestic supply chain for rare-earth magnets, essential components in the motors of electric vehicles and wind turbines. Thank you Thomas Kelly 🛳️ Following a fabulous tour of the facility, we then visited the Titanic Quarter offices, via the site of Ionic's planned new facility, where we learned all about the future development of this world-class, exemplary, fast-moving regeneration project. 📅 On Friday we were delighted to welcome representatives of Northern Ireland's rich zero-emission and clean-mobility supply chain, to hear about the UK Government funding opportunities available to them. We were also privileged to hear from Andy Harris of Wrightbus Fergal Coleman of Ionic Technologies, and Laura O’Neill from Belfast Harbour, who discussed the funding received from Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles via Zenzic to create a unique autonomous shuttle service for the Harbour Estate. 🙏 We can't thank our hosts, fabulous guests and guest speakers enough, we had an amazing time networking with existing partners and discovering new friends along the way. If you would like to find out more about the funding opportunities that run throughout the year, contact us now, info@apcuk.co.uk. #Innovation #funding #investment #UKautomotive #CAM #Zeroemission
