Yesterday AKD Solutions delivered our first Sports Breakfast Meeting in the “Architects of the Future” series. This themed morning was all about getting big thinkers solving big problems in the sports and physical activity space. I have to give huge thanks to our presenters on the day, Hugh Brasher, Orlene Badu and Geoff Thompson MBE FRSA DL QP JM Thompson, each of whom gave their genuine, authentic, and heartfelt delivery in this space, bringing the room together and stimulating deep and serious thinking about how we collectively have a role to be brave and make change for the better. I also want to thank the people who braved some stormy weather to make it to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park where we held the event, and the AKD team. Without you all this wouldn’t have happened. The AKD sports division are the new kids on the block but have a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience through our associates who work with our clients. This breakfast meeting was a success, and we will deliver similar events over the next coming year across the UK. 💥 We’re All Yorkshire – A Bold Leap Towards Being Customer Obsessed via Cultural Transformation! 💥 At Yorkshire Housing, they’re not just managing 20,000 homes across the region they’re reimagining what it means to serve their customers. They came to us at AKD Solutions with a challenge that got us excited: 🤔 How do we become “Customer Obsessed”? It’s a term that shook things up. After all, “obsession” can sound intense. But Yorkshire Housing wanted to make it their mantra and spark a cultural transformation, not just for their team, but for the whole housing sector. Challenge accepted! Here’s how we rolled up our sleeves: 🔥 Flip the script: We tackled the old-school “tenant” stigma head-on. Through storytelling, we uncovered the humanity behind every door. 🏠 Step into their shoes: Execs packed their bags and moved into Yorkshire Housing properties. The goal? To feel what customers feel warts and all. Spoiler alert: eye-opening doesn’t even begin to cover it! ☎️ Chats, not checklists: We sent the IT crew, call centre teams, and anyone glued to their keyboards out to meet customers. A proper brew and some real talk revealed issues that emails never could. 🎙️ Brave conversations: And then, we turned up the heat. We brought in Kwajo Tweneboa the housing activist who doesn’t hold back to challenge the leadership in podcasts and fireside chats. What happened next? Through workshops, heart-to-hearts, and daring challenges, we helped Yorkshire Housing’s team see their customers for who they really are people with stories, struggles, and so much more than meets the eye. The impact was raw, real, and transformational. And while becoming “Customer Obsessed” is a North Star that keeps moving, Yorkshire Housing is leading the charge to shift perceptions and raise the bar for the whole industry. So this week I was in Birmingham at the Muslim Sports Awards courtesy of Sport England and I must say what a brilliant event. What really made a difference was that the organisers, Muslim Sports Foundation owned the space they were in (not the property!) and they were able to bring their authentic self to their event. The prayers at the beginning, the food and refreshments, the hosts all brought that sense of belonging. For many this is not always the case and people enter spaces where they are left on the sideline, overlooked and sometimes blatantly ignored. This was very different and I fully appreciated it. Congratulations to all the finalists and award winners, what you do truly matters in making sport and physical activity inclusive. You're the necessary parts that make up a rich and colourful tapestry in the sport and physical activity space. Shout out to all the colleagues and friends I met and to those who I never got to see and were there. Always reach out when you can as I love to talk. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the graduation ceremony to celebrate the participants who completed "AcceleRace," our Talent Development Programme supporting colleagues from racially diverse backgrounds 💫 AcceleRace holds a special place in my heart. It began as an idea when the Empower Race Network brainstormed initial objectives for the network. After presenting the concept to our Network Sponsor, we received approval for a pilot last year. We then formed a mini project group to collaborate with our learning partner, source a suitable supplier, and design the course, selecting the modules we wanted to include. Thus, "AcceleRace" was born. The pilot was a success, making a significant impact on the participants. It was so successful that the Business approved AcceleRace as one of our official development programmes at Siemens. Taking feedback from the pilot group into account, the project team and I again reviewed various suppliers. We ultimately chose AKD Solutions, whose programme blew us away! This time round, we also wanted to open to programme up to more participants, so also included employees from Siemens Mobilty. This year, the participants faced the challenge of designing, planning, and organizing their Graduation ceremony, and they exceeded our expectations! They planned the agenda, hosted the event, shared inspiring testimonies, and engaged us attendees in thought-provoking tasks they had completed during the programme. Listening to participants share stories about how impactful the programme has been, why such a course was necessary, and how much they have already benefited both personally and professionally was incredibly rewarding. With that, I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in AcceleRace's success thus far. This week, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in an amazing training session on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, where I not only deepened my understanding of these crucial concepts but was also trained to facilitate the Equally Yours learning map to my Royal Mail colleagues. The session dived into the Equality Act, legislations, theories and exploring how our own thoughts, behaviors, and perceptions shape the way we engage with the world. It was both enlightening and challenged me to think deeply about inclusion and fairness in every aspect of life and work. I’m thrilled to now be equipped to guide others through this journey, helping individuals and teams cultivate a deeper awareness of DEI and how it can transform workplaces and communities. That’s why we were proud to have our very own Ladi Ajayi attend a transformative hybrid roundtable discussion at Warner Bros HQ in London, joining 21 other changemakers from across the U.K such as Dr Nana Badu, audrey livingston, Emerick Kaitell, Temi Lateef, Alice Dearing OLY, Eve Joseph, James Kong, Amhra Dyer-Stott & many more.
