Affected Lived Experience Research Treatment & Support

About us

The ALERTS (Affected Lived Experience Research, Treatment & Support) is a group of like-minded individuals from across The UK who have been affected directly or indirectly (affected other) from gambling harm. We believe that Lived Experience should be at the very heart of treatment and support – collectively, we can make a real difference. Many of our group members (some of who you can learn a little more about below) have direct experience of using gambling treatment services within the UK, and have a full understanding on what help is currently available. We aim to use our voices and experiences to help shape these services in the future – to better support gamblers (and affected others) to a life free of gambling.

#LLE ASSEMBLE. Following on from another successful GambleAware conference we would like to take time out to celebrate the continued recognition of #LivedandLivingExperience as having a necessary and central role in helping drive actions and ambitions around addressing and reducing #GamblingHarms in the UK (and for that matter, the whole World). We are now in the previously unimaginable situation that it is now practically impossible for any senior leader or stakeholder to give a speech about addressing #HarmfulGambling and NOT acknowledge continuing collaboration with, and input from #LivedExperience. That events such as yesterday's annual conference have representatives of Lived Experience led organisations such as #GLEN, ALERTS Group, Betknowmore UK, and Reframe Coaching participating in, and even facilitating (as with our own David Quinti in the attached pic) on an equal status with government (and shadow) ministers, CEO's of major charities, Public Health and NHS leaders, and senior representatives of Regulatory bodies, is true testimony to the impact that those who champion experiential understanding and involvement have managed to achieve in a relatively short period of time. It felt so appropriate that Owen Baily was there to witness the evolving changes which he was so much a formative part of instigating, those many years ago. But words alone "butter no parsnips" 🎄 We will hold every one of those lofty speakers to their fine words, and will readily call them out if we feel that their actions do not support those same words. #LLE is here. #Ready, #willing, and #able to play our part in ensuring that what happens in the coming period of change rightly puts the wellbeing of our community, and therefore of every community, at the forefront of future policy AND actions. In otherwise uncertain times it brings great comfort to know that people like us, with shared values and goals, are out there and acting on behalf of others. #together we will make that difference. [Self-effacing] Hero's one and all. We salute you.
