The 7th Carbon Budget makes one thing clear: electrification is essential to industrial decarbonisation. By 2040, electricity is expected to meet 61% of industrial energy demand, replacing fossil-fuel-based heat sources with electric boilers, ovens, furnaces, and heat pumps. But for electrification to succeed, electricity must be cheaper. Right now, Levies (FCLs) are driving up electricity prices, making it harder for businesses and consumers to decarbonise. At AMP, we are committed to making flexible electrification a reality, turning surplus renewable power into low-carbon heat, and pushing for policy changes that remove unnecessary levies from electricity bills. Net Zero cannot happen without affordable electricity. Let’s get the UK’s energy system ready for the future. #NetZero #Decarbonisation #Electrification #ClimateChange #7thCarbonBudget

Yesterday we attended the launch of Electrifying Our Future, a powerful new series produced by Content With Purpose in partnership with the ECA - Excellence in Electrotechnical and Engineering Services. This series spotlights 12 companies driving the UK’s electrification journey and we're proud to be one of them. Our work with Simpsons Malt Limited on the UK’s first high-voltage electric boiler powered by curtailed wind energy is a revolutionary solution for industrial heat decarbonisation. We can't wait to share the videos from this partnership over the coming days. The first focuses on our pioneering Simpsons Malt project, which is set to save 25,000 tonnes of carbon each year by harnessing a combination of renewable, low carbon biomass and a first-of-its-kind electric boiler powered by wind energy. The second video takes a bigger picture look at the electrification of heat and why excess power should be seen as an opportunity and not a problem. If we have surplus electricity, why wouldn't we turn it into heat? For now, here's a sneak peak of our Simpsons Malt project video - keep your eyes open for the link to the full video soon!

Last week, our Head of Industrial Biomass, Cliff Thurgood Tech Iosh, had the honour of showing Lady Clare, Countess of Euston, Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, around our energy centre at Muntons Plc’s Stowmarket site. The low carbon energy centre demonstrates Muntons’ commitment to decarbonise operations and drive real impact. This dedication is why they’ve been recognised with the King’s Award for Sustainable Development. #Sustainability #Biomass #NetZero

Two areas of focus for National Wealth Fund are Industrial Decarbonisation and Heat decarbonisation. So it made for a really interesting day to get “out of the office” with Stuart Reid and see Amp Clean Energy’s energy centre at Berwick-Upon-Tweed. The centre provides clean heat to the nearby Simpson’s Malt facility, which is a key supplier of malted barley to the Scottish whisky sector. Scope 3 emissions from barley supplies are one of the biggest sources of emissions for distilleries’ operations, so this facility plays a key role not only in reducing Simpsons’ carbon footprint, but also those of their distillery customers. Thanks to the team at AMP Clean Energy for a really interesting site visit and demo of the technologies and processes being used. Colin Hudson Peter Clifton

A peek inside our Energy Centre 👀 The Energy Centre at our Tweed Valley Maltings is currently in the commissioning stage and, once it is fully up and running later this year, it will give us up to an 80% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions at this site - and up to a 55% reduction company-wide. That’s because this project is combining heat electrification with biomass energy to decarbonise the energy-intensive kilning stage of the malting process 🌾 Last month, Chair Richard Simpson joined Chief Engineer Pat Richards on a tour of the facility, led by AMP Clean Energy's Head of Customer Solutions, Stuart Reid, to check out the progress of the project 🚶 Given the considerable reduction in our Scope 1 & 2 emissions as a result of this project, this will positively impact not only our own objectives of achieving net zero Scope 1 & 2 emissions and carbon neutral malting barley production by 2030, but also the sustainability objectives of the distilling and brewing customers who receive malt produced at this site 🥃 Read more 👉 https://buff.ly/3ZURAzG
