Last week we dropped off a brand new, state of the art, Norsonic sound insulation testing kit at The Building Performance Hub. This will be used to support its building acoustics training courses and provide demonstrations for members of SITMA. We’re grateful to The Building Performance Hub for a warm welcome, and look forward to supporting its aims of promoting the testing and measurement industry, and promoting technical excellence.

This week we're in Japan learning about the latest products from Rion Europe and Norsonic. We've been hosted at Rion's new conference and meeting centre, which sits on their campus in Kokubunji near Tokyo. More than 600 people work at this campus, and it is a hub for innovation and research in noise and vibration measurement. We can't wait to share these developments with you, so please get in touch.

Exciting news for environmental noise practitioners! Michael Lotinga has shared an open-source implementation of the Sottek Hearing Model pyschoacoustic metrics (loudness, tonality, roughness) based on ECMA-418-2:2022. These are: • The first complete, validated open-source implementation • Available in MATLAB, with plans for Python translation • Applicable for simple and complex audio signals I encourage colleagues to explore these tools.
