We're excited to be working with Hydrock, now Stantec, Wales & West Utilities, and SGN to explore how hydrogen can help meet the growing energy demands of UK data centres while reducing emissions. As one of the fastest growing sectors, data centres require reliable and sustainable power solutions. This study will provide valuable insight into how hydrogen could play a role in the future energy mix.
Can hydrogen help power UK data centres - and reduce emissions? That's the question our latest study is looking to answer. We're working with distribution network, Wales & West Utilities (WWU), in partnership with SGN and engineering consultancy Apollo, to help understand the role hydrogen could play in powering and decarbonising one of the UK's fastest growing sectors. Find out more about how we'll be exploring clean energy solutions to help deliver much-needed power to the data centre sector and wider supply chain here: https://lnkd.in/eksmcEQG

🚀 The skills we’ve built in oil and gas aren’t just relevant—they’re essential 🚀 Floating wind, carbon capture, and hydrogen all come with engineering challenges that demand technical expertise, problem-solving mindsets, and a rigorous approach—skills honed in oil and gas over decades. Take Will Brindley’s journey—from offshore oil and gas to renewables. His experience with umbilicals, moorings, and dynamic analysis didn’t become obsolete; it became vital in floating wind. The transition isn’t about leaving skills behind—it’s about applying them to shape the future of energy. At Apollo, 48% of our revenue now comes from sectors beyond oil & gas. Are you ready for your next challenge? Check out our website for our current vacancies or contact andrew.pritchard@apollo.engineer

🚀 Hydrogen, data centres, net zero—connecting the dots 🚀 We're delighted to announce that Apollo is partnering with Wales & West Utilities, SGN, and Hydrock, now Stantec on a first-of-its-kind study exploring how hydrogen could power and decarbonise UK data centres. With demand for AI and digital storage soaring, energy use is set to increase sixfold. But grid delays are holding projects back. This study will assess how hydrogen - blended or 100% - could provide a faster, cleaner alternative. Read more here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eJKkU6pz

🚀 "What’s the biggest challenge you face every day?" 🚀 One of many questions from an engaged audience of young women at Pembrokeshire College today. Michelle Hitches FMAAT MAPM GMC led a fantastic discussion on Apollo’s first live podcast recording – What on Earth: Women in STEM, The Next Generation. Alongside Louise McDonnell (RWE) and Madeline Cowley CEng MIMechE, they explored their journeys, challenges, and advice for the next generation of engineers and innovators. Women make up just 29% of the UK STEM workforce – we need to change that. Seeing the curiosity and ambition in the room today? Proof that the future is bright. Missed it? The recording will be available at the end of February. Follow us on LinkedIn to catch it!

🚀 Welcoming the next generation of engineers 🚀 At Apollo, we’re passionate about sharing knowledge and shaping the future of energy. This week we were delighted to host students from the University of Aberdeen as they join Apollo for a work experience project on Decentralised Energy Systems. Their focus? Investigating how surplus renewable energy—like the incredible offshore wind and tidal potential around Orkney—can be harnessed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. From literature reviews to technical analysis, our team is here to support and guide them as they develop their findings. We're looking forward to seeing their fresh perspectives in action!

We’re looking forward to Global Underwater Hub’s Subsea Expo 2025, taking place on 18–20 February at P&J Live, Aberdeen. Ryan Menzies, Marissa Stephen, Martin Hance MSc, BA, and David S. from the Apollo team will be attending. It’s always a great chance to connect, catch up, and explore what’s happening in the subsea world. If you’re there, we’d love to say hello.
