How do we make hard-to-recycle flexible packaging a thing of the past? With #hydropol hitting the shelves in our supermarkets this could now be a reality for the snack packaging sector, and in many other FMCG areas too. Our latest research asked consumers if they thought retailers and brands could be doing more to reduce the recycling burden and stop plastic pollution from packaging. The response was an overwhelming YES. Check out the highlights below for more insights. https://lnkd.in/er-e9vNc #switchtohydropol #sustainablepackaging #aquapak #newmaterials #leavenotrace

Packaging regulation is gradually evolving to promote safer and more sustainable materials but this doesn't mean brands need to wait to take positive action. The solutions exist now! #switchtohydropol #sustainablepackaging #newmaterials #leavenotrace
It’s very pleasing to see that the European Chemicals Agency is being tasked by the European Commission with a study to identify harmful chemicals in packaging and, ultimately, propose restrictions on their use. These responsibilities come from the new #PPWR which entered into force earlier this month. ECHA will be contributing to better protection of people and the environment from harmful chemicals in packaging and promoting safe reuse and sustainable recycling. It will provide its input to the Commission by end of September 2026. This is another important of piece of the packaging jigsaw as regulation moves to reduce the environmental impact of packaging. We will be following developments closely as we always aim to stay ahead of regulations and ensure solutions like #hydropol remain relevant and future-proofed. However, it shouldn’t be seen as another opportunity to delay action and take a ‘wait and see’ approach. There are plenty of proven materials available that can revolutionise packaging for businesses and brands with the foresight and ambition to make the change.

The straw that broke the camel's back? Whether it's plastic, paper or preferably no straw at all, just moving to paper packaging because it is easier to recycle is not the complete answer. Sustainable packaging still has to perform and function properly if consumers and brands are to be persuaded to move away from conventional plastics. The good news is that new materials already exist that allow brands to hit sustainability targets without compromising packaging performance. We invented #hydropol to provide the performance and functionality of plastic, but without the problematic end-of-life. Hydropol can be used on its own, combined with paper or other packaging materials to add strength and provide an excellent barrier to oxygen, grease, oils and fats. It is thermally processable on current packaging machinery, is marine-safe, biodegrades naturally and improves recyclability, effectively eliminating the risk of persistent plastic pollution in the environment. When packaging reaches the end of its life #hydropol safely dissolves and breaks down leaving nothing behind but CO2, water and biomass. If you’d like to make your packaging problem disappear, contact us now and order your free #hydropol sample pack. https://lnkd.in/eSSEfFzZ #switchtohydropol #sustainablepackaging #aquapak #newmaterials

🗑️ Advances in the development of biopolymers and alternative plastics could help address the mountains of plastic waste produced each year reports The Engineer UK's Andrew Wade. 🔥 Around 450 million tonnes of #plasticwaste is generated globally each year, with less than 10 per cent recycled. The remainder is incinerated, sent to landfill or littered, with an estimated 2 million tonnes washing into our oceans. 💡 In the absence of a global agreement, the best hope for tackling the plastics crisis may lie with technology - tweaking plastics to make them biodegradable or replacing petrochemical feedstocks with plant material. And with a global plastics market north of $700 billion - set to top $1 trillion by 2033 – the incentive is financial as much as it’s environmental. The Engineer UK spoke to Xampla's Marc Rodríguez Garcia, Floreon's Andrew Gill and Aquapak Polymers Ltd's Mark Lapping Read the full report here 👇 #theengineer #biopolymers #alternativeplastics https://lnkd.in/e2NPdnRj
